Rhonda-
Thanks for the photos. I really enjoyed seeing them and the images of the Halloween windows brought back some great memories, wherein little dl got to paint some windows (several years in a row). At one point I was able to paint a window at Manners, which was the premier spot in my little mind.
The kids were given a silver dollar for participating - I think there may have been other prizes involved, but I don't believe I ever won any of them. It didn't matter. It was way cool for a little kid to paint a store window, realizing that (of course) everyone in Lakewood would see my artwork.
I still have those silver dollars.
Kudos to every shop owner who participated in this program. This is, to my way of thinking, a serious quality of life issue, wherein the community embraces kids, artwork and fun. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but it takes a lot of grains of sand to build a beach. The Halloween Walk is a beautiful dune on our beach.

Sounds like a good story for the Observer. Since I did not live in Lakewood growing up I would love to hear about a story like that. Especially since you still have the silver dollars.
Your right...it is a quality of life issue.
This was a great event and when I took the pictures...the kids and their parent helper were having allot fun. That's why I posted the pictures on the web site....they were very exited that they had a chance to get their picture in the newspaper....even the kids are aware of LO and want to have their picture taken for it's latest issue.
That's pretty cool..too!

I told DH about those photos & he immediately called his sister, who remembered that the top prize was TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS! That was HUGE!!!

With inflation...that may be 100 bucks!!!
I wonder if the Chamber of Commerce and the Beck Center could rally next year to do that. I think that would be great for the kids!!
