Issue 7

Lakewood voters,
Our City, County and State have several important ballot issues for the voters to decide this Nov. 8. Again, I will be making an effort to inform Lakewood voters as to some information regarding these issues.
Today, I would like to address Issue 7, an issue that is close to my heart.
Issue 7 is a REPLACEMENT of the 3.9 mill Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities levy.
This issue is the only local support for people with mental retardation or developmental disabilities.
The County Board of Mental Health is serving 25% more people than five years ago, during a time they have cut spending and reduced staff by 100.
Issue 7 is vital to continuation of services for job training and placement for thousands of adults with mental retardation. Issue 7 funded services provide training in living skills, transportation services and residential programs for an ever-increasing number of people with developmental disabilities or mental retardation.
Approval of Issue 7 will allow the continuation of matching federal and state funds.
I am honored to be an Honorary Chairperson of the countywide Issue 7 campaign and strongly urge its support.
Those interested in assisting in the campaign can call Friends of the Mentally Retarded at (216)736-2656.
