Bravo! The Christian Science Church across from the Lakewood Public Library looks great and has been saved from the wrecking ball. Thank you to the civic-minded developer.

Boo! However, one of Lakewood’s oldest homes, located behind the church, was torn down without any public discussion. I believe it was the Harry Andrews house. The house, which was directly behind the church, faced Detroit and had the look of an old farmhouse. The house could have been moved to Lakewood Park and would have looked great next to the Oldest Stone House. While there was public outcry about the home on Lake and Nicholson, the Andrew’s home flew under the radar.

I had no idea there was even a house behind that church. I thought it was just the drug mart parking lot, Kaufmann park, and an old drive up bank that is closed. Where was this house?

You can see the where foundation was if you drive behind the church. It was directly behind the church. Here is a picture of the house: http://tinyurl.com/byz6q
