CLEVELAND STONEWALL DEMOCRATS MAKE 2005 PRIMARY ENDORSEMENTS
The Cleveland Stonewall Democrats made its first round of endorsements last night for the 2005 election cycle. After a lengthy three-hour meeting between local Stonewall members and the 12-person executive committee it was decided to endorse a number of specific candidates for Cleveland City Council, Cleveland Heights City Council and Lakewood City Council.
Three openly gay and lesbian candidates were endorsed for election, as follows: Nickie Antonio (Lakewood City Council - At Large); Joe Santiago (Cleveland City Council - Ward 14); and, Mark Tumeo (Cleveland Heights City Council).
There was no pre-primary endorsement from the group for Cleveland Mayor. "The group was almost evenly split between people who supported Mayor Campbell's re-election and others who wanted to wait until after the primary to endorse in the race," said Patrick Shepherd, President of the Cleveland Stonewall Democrats. "I encourage all LGBT people and our allies to get involved in the Mayoral campaign of their choice."
