LAKEWOOD ALIVE - What is next?

Mary Anne Crampton, and other LA members

I was impressed with the last three meetings from Lakewood Alive. They were nothing like I imagined when they were first announced. The number of ideas for Lakewood generated in these discussions were truly spectacular, and what the city and the residents need.

What's next?

Will there be a print form of the meetings? If so I would love to run some of it here. It is something every Lakewoodite needs to hear and know about. What about the broadcast dates on 74? Would we be allowed to record and podcast them? How can we all keep the conversation alive?

Mary Anne thank you for the hard work. I know as a member of the new Emerald Canyon Historical District, it will not be wasted information.

We are so glad to hear that you considered the housing forum valuable. The feedback from those who attended has been terrific.

Both forums were taped by Lakewood Schools. Our experience in December suggests that it will be a week or two before they are broadcast on Channel 74. Doug Bunsey does a fantastic job of editing for broadcast (synching slides, adding speaker titles, etc) and he is a one man show over there... we know it takes time. As soon as we have a broadcast schedule, we will be looking for help in getting the word out...so I'll be sure to let the Observer know!

Ken Warren offered to have copies of the DVD made (and Jim, thanks for your offer to make those copies!) to be available for lending at the library. Recording and podcasting seems like an idea we should consider....let's talk.

We do not have print copy of the speeches.

As far as "what next" is concerned, our committee will be meeting in May to discuss. We have several ideas to consider, as we did before choosing housing as a forum topic. We will consider relevancy and resources in terms of our mission and goals in deciding where we go from here.

Thanks again for your supportive comments.

Mary Anne---I found the Lakewood Alive meeting on Tuesday to be a genuine learning experience. I also was quite impressed with the level of production in the committee's presentation. There was a lot of quiet humming along to the intro song, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young "Our House."

Just thought I might resurrect this historic vintage thread from way back in 2005...(!)

To show all of the hope and optimism and dare I say, kumbayah unity heralding the dawn of the LakewoodAlive experience, with Lakewood Observer's full support.

Kumbayah indeed.

Did it once, we can do it again. :D

Gary:

First let’s cue up “Be Careful of the Stones That You Throw.â€￾

I’m partial to Shirley Caesar’s rendition.

Jim might prefer Hank Williams.

BE CAREFUL OF STONES THAT YOU THROW Lyrics
Artist(Band):Hank Williams

Recorded by Hank Williams, Sr.
Written by Bonnie Dodd

CHORUS
A [F] tongue can accuse and carry bad [C] news
The [F] seeds of distrust, it will [C] sow
But [F] unless you've made no mistakes in your [C] life
Be careful of [G7] stones that you [C] throw.

(SPOKEN)
[C] A neighbor was passing my [F] garden one time
[C] She stopped and I knew right away [G7]
That it was gossip, not flowers, she had on her mind [C]
And this is what I heard my neighbor say:

[C] "That girl down the street [F] should be run from our midst
[C] She drinks and she talks quite a lot [G7]
She knows not to speak to my child or to me." [C]
My neighbor then smiled and I thought:

CHORUS

(SPOKEN)
A car speeded by and the screamin' of brakes
A sound that made my blood chill
For my neighbor's one child had been pulled from the path
And saved by a girl lying still.

The child was unhurt and my neighbor cried out:
"Oh! who was that brave girl so sweet?"
I covered the crushed, broken body and said:
"The bad girl who lived down the street."

CHORUS

Gary

I guess I have sobered up, unlike Hank.

But thanks because it shows, no one thought more of this than I.

However...

Gary

I guess you forgot the conversation, or all of my other posts about
LakewoodAlive. There was not a bigger fan/peacemaker. To this day
I support LakewoodAlive. Do you throw out all the apples because of
two?

Then the gifted two came in to attack one woman with cancer, belittle
another single mother of two, and one old fat man lying in a hospital
with heart failure, who was to avoid stress. Of course they deserved to
be attacked, they asked about how tax dollars are being spent. They
questioned the cost of "way finding." They wondered why a group that
was dedicated to tell us ignorant Lakewoodite why we NEED economic
development not only never bothered to BUY LAKEWOOD, but then said
"There was no one as skilled as the group that helped Heinens with their
massive branding campaign." Those evil residents dared to ask what percentage of spooky pooch dollars actually went to the dogs.

I think you posted this here by mistake. Oh wait, they do not allow
discussion.

Well, I guess it is time for you and I to do the peacemaker thing. You
wear the white cowboy outfit, I wear the all black, er ah errrrrr makes me
look thinner, yeah that's it.

Jim,

Sometimes I do basic black, for evening wear. :D
