We don't need the Cleveland Clinic medical clinic after all - Walmart wants to be your "wellness destination!"

We can have it all - retail shopping AND healthcare and wellness! Just think of the tax benefits a Walmart will bring to Lakewood, along with great jobs for the kids and seniors!

Read all about it:

Here is the REAL future of healthcare! From Slate: http://www.slate.com/articles/business/moneybox/2014/10/walmart_and_health_care_partnership_with_directhealth_com.html

“Consumers are going to benefit from new entrants who think more like retailers than health care providers,” says Zack Cooper, professor of health policy and management at the Yale School of Public Health.

PricewaterhouseCoopers wrote in a report on the health industry that consumers “are ready to abandon traditional care models for ones that echo experiences in banking, retail, and entertainment.” Nearly 50 percent of people surveyed told PwC they would be likely to have a wound treated at a clinic in a retail store or pharmacy, or have stitches removed there, if it cost less than the traditional option of a hospital or physician’s office. Fifty-nine percent said they would be interested in using an at-home strep test.

Bridget,
I hope they put in one of those blood pressure machines so that our senior citizens that can't afford a ride to Avon can monitor their own health!

Lori - I'm pretty sure that's what they have in mind.

Cleveland Clinic has partnered with HealthSpot, a telemedicine technology company. They will be placing these "Doc in a Box" units in drugstores and Marc's stores. As noted in the first post, this technology is the "future of healthcare" and Toby Cosgrove of the Clinic highly endorses it.

Here's info on the units:

https://www.healthspot.net/cleveland-cl ... in-kiosks/

Here's Toby's take on the units:
This relationship allows patients to utilize the latest technology to connect to Cleveland Clinic experts in a more convenient way,” said Toby Cosgrove, MD, Chief Executive Officer and President of Cleveland Clinic. “This strengthens our ability to meet the growing needs of patients in everyday settings, delivering higher value for their healthcare dollar.”
Doc in a box. Is that YOUR idea of "World Class Health Care?" That's what Toby thinks we deserve.
