The LHS "Sparkle Effect" project, which brings together students with and without disabilities for cheerleading, had its first public appearance Friday night. After weeks of practice, the Sparkles cheered during the first quarter of the Lakewood/Berea-Midpark football game.

LHS Cheerleading Coach Amy Staib was very pleased with the debut. "It was great, they did awesome" said Staib. "They had so much fun". As a special surprise, many of the Sparkles' teachers made signs to recognize the kids. The Sparkles posed with their supporters and signs.

The Sparkles will appear at each of the Rangers' four remaining home games, as well as at the Homecoming Festivities. Other appearances are being planned...stay tuned to the Observer for news.

In addition to the Sparkles, Coach Staib has been very pleased with her entire squad this season. "Varsity is very strong", she said. They will participate in competition later this year (stay tuned for details).
