...we still couldn't solve diabetes and obesity in Lakewood, Ms. Madigan said. Ms. Madigan made that comment in response to Councilman Sam O'Leary's expressing concern for how Lakewood would take care of its people if City Council proceeds with the Summers Plan to demolish the hospital. Mr. O'Leary recounted that John Bodine of Huron Consulting has told City Council that the proposed new trust fund (the center piece of the Summers Plan) "would not move the needle" in taking care of Lakewoodites as compared with our 100 year old charitable institution.
So while our newest Councilmember expresses concern our people, our outgoing Council President is worried about protecting herself----steadfastly defending an indefensible ill-conceived plan that has already begun to erode assets used for the sick and poor.
Fortunately, we only have 120 days left of failed leadership until a new Council President begin to heal the damage caused by the current one. She will also vacate a seat on the LHA board that she has used to damage the hospital.
