City Council About To Set Off Political Firestorm

The political process allows individuals and groups to have their voice and their vote. The peoples acceptance of that process rests on the legitimacy of that process.

A special Council of the Whole meeting has been called for Saturday August 29th at 9 AM.

Members of Council are set to force through the Build Lakewood/Team Summers decision to destroy Lakewood Hospital . In doing so they will do great damage to the legitimacy of the political process.

It they do so it will be a decision made in secret with no support from the population of Lakewood.

It will be a decision made at the request of a select few who have worked secretly to transfer Lakewood medical business to Avon and Fairview.

This action taken so close to an election will be seen as an illegitimate act of political intrigue that will poison the political environment in Lakewood for years to come.

It is a decision that would encourage recall elections, law suits and recrimination.

I ask that Council do the right thing and let the political process take its course. I am willing to accept the will of the people of Lakewood and so should they.

If they choose to delegitimize the political process then:

Unleash the dogs of war. It will be a battle without end.

Are we to believe them when they say(?):

"The committee is meeting with its attorneys and is not expected to conduct additional deliberations or to make any votes, other than to adjourn, after emerging from executive session."

Another half-truth or outright falsehood? How are we to know if the public is shut out? This stinks to high heaven. See you there!
