Staff Assistant, Division of Housing and Building
Up to 29 hours per week


The City of Lakewood has an excellent opportunity available for the right candidate in our Division of Housing and Building. The part-time Staff Assistant works to support the programs and functions of the division by providing exceptional customer service to residents, contractors and employees. Duties* include but are not limited to, processing building licenses and applications in a professional, efficient and courteous manner, handling monetary transactions, using the Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and Access to create and format letters, memos, charts and other documents as well as to create and maintain databases. Must possess the ability to learn the division’s software program, Web Q & A, within the first 90 days of employment. This position often serves as the ‘face’ of the division and interacts with the public on a daily basis. These positions will share City hall operator duties. The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills both in person and on the phone; must be able to work independently and be able to interact well with the general public and all levels of employees; must be able to perform specialized research and statistical work on assigned subjects to staff and management; must possess the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others; must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

•High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
•Two (2) to three (3) years of experience performing general office duties such as document creation, filing and answering telephones; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job; experience with utility billing desired.
•Must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. (Testing to be performed.)
•Must maintain good grooming and appearance for daily contact with the public.
•Must maintain a demeanor suitable for dealing with the public and maintain a good public relations attitude when dealing with complaints.
•Must satisfactorily complete a physical examination, including drug test and police background investigation.
