LA Challenges Cox To Paint A House In A Day- Success
Posted: Mon Jul 20, 2015 8:31 am

On a 93 degree humid Sunday afternoon, LakewoodAlive's Housing Outreach Coordinator
Allison Urbanek, assembled her trusty crew, with volunteers from Cox Communications,
and some help from Alternative Rental & Services. The challenge.... Paint a house in a day.
The house they chose belonged to long time Lakewood resident George Jancsik. George
has lived in historic Birdtown for 62 years. He has been there so long he remembers when
the infamous cartoonist Robert Crumb lived down the street from him.

Cox Communications is no stranger to helping communities, not only have they painted
other homes in Lakewood with LakewoodAlive, they work in all communities they have
services in.

No doubt many of their techniques come from watching home improvement shows on Cox Cable.

Time for a lunch break! Eric Lowery cooks up some food while members of the group pause for a quick picture. Front row, Lakewood Alive's Courtney Russ, George Jancsik,
LA's Housing Director Allison Urbanek, and LakewoodAlive's director Ian Andrews.
Behind them, Cox Communication volunteers.

Owner Bob Janscik was amazed at not only getting his house painted nicely in 1 day,
but they gave him lunch too!

owner George Janscik, and Councilwoman-at-Large Cindy Marx
who stopped by to help out.
Another house saved! Thanks to Allison Urbanek, Cox Communications and volunteers!
