Pam Smith, in your own words, what SPECIFIC economic development opportunities are you, Team Summers, and Build Lakewood planning?
You folks have a specific plan, right?
What is it?
And why doesn't everyone on City Council know what you, Team Summers, and Build Lakewood are up to?

That's absurd! Who is excited about losing 1,100 jobs in a county that's constantly bleeding people. The city has struggled to develop empty lots on the eastern end of the city. How will they handle the proposed 5 acres of vacant hospital land?
Since the hospital is a public asset, put it to a vote. Get it out of the hands of council and put the future of the hospital into the hands of the people. Is that possible?

They are talking about 6 total acres.
3 acres for the Clinic and parking
which leaves 3 acres.
If they are going to build a city owned "wellness" aka recreation center how much land will be left for development?
Is it really worth destroying a hospital for an unknown development of an unknown size?
Is it really worth destroying a hospital for a Family Health Center even though the Cleveland Clinic has REFUSED to say what services would be offered?
If the Clinic closes its offices on Detroit and Madison aren't we really destroying a hospital just to relocate the Clinics two Lakewood offices?

These people have a proven record, relax.
"High End Shopping In DowntowN with elevated walkways" = Marc's Plaza
Even the drawings for the infamous Westend repeated businesses and were filled with businesses that were either closed or filing bankruptcy.
I would hope we can all agree on one simple point.
Those that drove the hospital into the ground, those that schemed and plotted, should be dropped from any future dealings.

Their current thinking is that the CCF FHC is going to be on the west side of Belle and the City will have the entire 6 acres (actually 5.7) on the east side. That's why they are so excited about the "opportunity" to get rid of 1,000 jobs---there is a little something in it for everyone--a hotel, recreation center, historical preservation, housing, retail, and maybe even a soccer field if we tear down few "old" houses.

That's a lot promises to a lot of people. Do you think the Mayor is over subscribed?

"Historical preservation"? I don't see any "preservation" in their plan. Quite the opposite.

Mike they are going to save the "facade" of the Curtis Building.
This would be the fifth time I have posted this during a push by these folks for Commercial Economic Development.
Still no monorails, clear elevated walks to the high end shopping, and on and on and on.
Anything to manage other people's money for them.

Plans within plans but not a clue.
The State of Ohio will give American Greetings nearly $95 million in taxpayer money and the City of Westlake will give millions more for 1,600 jobs but the City of Lakewood swaps 1,000 jobs for a recreation center.

The City is holding meetings beginning on Wednesday to discuss the various development proposals. These meetings are open to the public and are being held to let residents know what some of the proposals are and to get feedback on them. Otherwise, I think the six page LOI sets forth some pretty specific plans regarding the Clinic's commitment to pay $34 million dollars for the construction of a new facility, which will include a new 24/7 emergency department and $24 million foundation.

Why do Build Lakewood and Team Summers keep referring to the LOI?
The LOI was not approved by City Council.
Doesn't the Huron Report raise serious questions as to the LOI, which - again - has not been approved by City Council by the way?

The Wednesday meeting is being run by Build Lakewood and Team Summers folks!
It will hardly be an unbiased review of options - a very good one of which is making the Cleveland Clinic honor the lease.

Open to the public, the workshops will teach citizens how to think like developers and offer them opportunities to design uses for the land currently occupied by Lakewood Hospital.
Not exactly the only or best way I want people to think about the future of Lakewood.
At least maybe we'll start to get an idea of what some people prefer to a full service hospital.
