Mary Louise Madigan Withdraws From Election

With a chubbier Kevin Butler at the Beck Center benefit for Nicki Anotonio,
It is with a bit of bittersweet sadness I have to announce that word has come that
Ward 4 Councilwoman Mary Louise Madigan has withdrawn from the race for the Ward 4 seat.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Mary Louise Madigan for as long as I have worked on this
project and before. She has always been a dedicated public servant in her private and
professional life. I will remember the good things she has done for this community, which
were many.
I know she had serious reservation about running again, and had been on and off all spring
long. Her reasons for stepping down were as good as they were for running. No matter what
people think because of the hospital debacle, she is a good solid progressive democrat.
For the longest time, Mary Louise and Nicki were the heart and soul of council.
I wish her the greatest success in her private life.

I echo Jim's sentiments.
Best wishes to her in future endeavors.
I look forward to the Ward's new leadership under Dan O'Malley.

Can't we find any non-Irish candidates? I mean, how about some diversity?

I guess because I can't
not "say nothing at all' about this, I'll adhere to the Thumperian Principle: "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all".
Mary Louise was always so gracious to me when I would (all too often) be the only "regular citizen" attending COW meetings or other Committee meetings she chaired ... often sharing with me the goodies she baked and brought to the meetings.
I, too, echo the aforementioned sentiments regarding her devotion to public service. While she and I would often find ourselves on opposite sides of the "issue du jour," I always felt Mary Louise was truly pleased when we would engage in civil discourse. And on those occasions when the conversation was not so civil, we most often ended up agreeing to disagree and smiled the next time we saw each other.
I feel so sad about how she was politically maneuvered by some of the Powers That Be.

Peter - brilliant. How the F he's still managing to run the city is beyond me. This is one small(ish) chink in the ever Power[s]ful army.

I'm of the opinion that Grace Ave residents should be directing their displeasure toward a different branch of Lakewood government.

" I'm of the opinion that Grace Ave. residents should be directing their displeasure toward a different branch of Lakewood government". Peter we did. Read Colleen Cotter's article. Amy, our disdain for Ms. Madigan towards the end of The Drug Mart process was such, that we didn't invite her to a meeting we scheduled with other At-Large City Council members, concerning Drug Mart's broken promises. That's what we thought of her. And that's all I'm going to say, there is no need to pile on.
