It is becoming clearer that Mayor Summers, Ms. Madigan and other LHA trustees have intentionally concealed material information from City Council and the public while attempting to obtain a decision from them to approve the LOI---namely, a plan to tear down Lakewood Hospital using hospital money and create a new foundation with hospital money. Information concealed and suppressed relates how they planned to divert, control and use the hospital money and land to build a Community Recreation Center and park--greenspace. Just two weeks ago, Jay Foran told City Council there was no plan like this—it was just a “rumor”. Mayor Summers, Ms. Madigan and Tom Bullock were present—they remained silent. Mayor Summers and Ms. Madigan have repeatedly said that these plans did not exist.

These are just two pages of a lenghty document that I have yet to digest. More to follow.

I've said all along - you are dealing with people who will look you directly in the eye and LIE. They've done it before and will continue to do so. They are morally and ethically bankrupt.

I learned during the West End how deceitful they are and trust nothing that they say. However, remain vigilant, as even when they are exposed, they will march forward like little ants, so consumed in their arrogance that they believe they will win.

This is from May 15, 2014, and I just noticed it is version 8. This would mean this goes back to
the end of 2013 When the drawing was described to me almost exactly like this with, Rec Center
and Park divided into 3.

These people are not fit to hold office. People have a fundamental right to have elected officals
be honest and truthful.

So many backroom deals, so many cover ups, everything from cooking hoods to threats
of death against elected officials, covered up swept under the rug.

Makes me sick.

A couple of the bastards are so bold they used to tauny elected officials at school board meetings.

Bullies, scoundrels, and quite possibly thieves!

In scale, this is far worse than the Jimmy Dimora crap.

This could ruin the city forever.

Unfortunately, I cannot say that I am shocked. I noticed at the bottom of the plan Mr. Essi posted, it is listed as a confidential client work. How would this be confidential? I don't see how a simple plan would have any attorney-client privilege in it. If it was in the hands of a public official (which it apparently was for quite some time) and it describes public business (plans for city-owned land), then it should be a simple public records request. If this plan is so great, why has it been hidden for all this time?

Last summer, I called up to City Hall and asked for these plans (I was pretty sure they had to exist). I was told the city has no plans for any project of the sort.

In my opinion, this plan has been going on way longer than the mayor and Jay Foran's Active Living Task Force. Why are the mayor, Mary Louise, and Tom Bullock (all LHA trustees), and the rest of the LHA (Tom Gable, John Litten, and many others) being so secretive if these plans are so grand? I would think Mr. Litten specifically would be sharing these plans during his door-to-door campaign for city council.

The current administration's behavior and tactics make me ill. I hope that transparency can soon be restored to City Hall.

Lori,

Our only hope at transparency and accountability is Michael J. Skindell for Lakewood Mayor.

Team Summers will have unlimited resources, as well as Tom Bullock and many families on the City Hall payroll, pounding the streets in support of their candidate - i.e., Mayor Michael P. Summers.

All City Council candidates running for election or reelection in Wards 1, 2, 3, and 4 need to formally step out of the shadows and share with Lakewood where they stand on transparency and accountability.

Even if you are a candidate who wants to kill the hospital, at least be honest about the fact that the current deal has been irrevocably tarnished and everyone must now go back to the drawing board ... without those who corrupted the process in attendance.

Hi Matt,

I will take your invitation to step forward as a Ward 3 council candidate and share some of my views.

I feel that transparency has been severely lacking at City Hall for some time now. I feel the lack of honesty has really gotten out of control when the hospital fiasco started. Although I know that there are (very limited) times when council has the right to go into executive session, I believe in an open, honest, transparent, and open-door government. The people in Lakewood deserve to know where and how their money is being spent. They should have access to all records under the Sunshine Laws. They should also be allowed to question their government and voice their concerns without fear of retaliation. All phone calls and e-mails should be returned promptly and politely.

I am a member of Save Lakewood Hospital and believe that the hospital can be saved. I also want to protect the 1,000+ jobs at the hospital. Many of these workers live in our community and help keep our economy running.

I will also work to open all of the basketball courts by dealing with the person (s) that are causing the alleged threat instead of making our whole community suffer.

I do not want to use the Deck to promote myself any more, but these are just a couple of my stances.

Thanks for asking for clarity. I encourage all others running to jump on the Deck just enough to say where you stand (but not as a political promotion). Thanks to the LO, we can all get online and share our thoughts, feelings, etc. Even though we don't always agree, at least we won't be censored by City Hall.

I just noticed that in the drawing above, the Curtis Block is like, gone. And an "ED" is in it's place, emergency department? Didn't that structure get a historical designation just a while back?

It's also of note that there is a "FHC", family health center, I presume AND a "Community Wellness Center". I thought these two terms were becoming interchangeable in our conversations. I guess in the future I need to be more astute as to exactly which replacement building we're talking about.

It's incredible how involved all these revelations have become. A "tangled web" comes to mind.

These documents are dated May 15, 2014--before Mayor Summers traded historical designations for votes and support for the LOI.

The historical designation of the Curtis Block was approved at a June 4, [i]2015[/i] LHA Trustee meeting after Mayor Summers and Tom Bullock successfully argued with CCF's Stephen Jones M.D. and Michael Meehan, Esq. for the historical designation in order to secure critically needed support for the expired LOI.

Here are some definitions and distinctions:

Recreation Center: a building that is open to the public where meetings are held, sports are played, and there are activities available for young and old people.

Community Center: a place where people from a particular community can meet for social, educational, or recreational activities.

Family Health Center or FHC Dr. Brian Donley Chief of Medicine at CCF defined an FHC as the same as a "specialty referral center" which is a monetized clinic that processes patients, conducts initial testing and then refers the patients to other CCF facilities to extract more money from the patients and their insurers for the more expensive procedure conducted by specialists. The Clinic wants to build an FHC, i.e. "specialty referral center" partly with LHA/City money to demolish the hospital and clear the land for CCF

The Mayor et al want to build the Recreation/Community/Wellness Center with LHA money to demolish the hospital and clear the land and then fund it with the "New Lakewood Community Health Foundation"

Back in 2014 when Matt Markling and Jim O'Bryan "broke wind" on the Recreation Center plans, the Mayor sent a memo to folks at City Hall that they could no longer use the term "recreation center" but must instead use the term "wellness center".

This all may hinge on what the meaning of the word "is" is.

Its all a bit silly if you ask me.
