PARCC tests gone??

Post by Betsy Voinovich »

There is a rumor from really good sources that the PARCC tests are
being discontinued and that this year's PARCC test results will be disregarded.

It is blazing through parent groups.

"Then why did we twist ourselves in knots
over it?" "What about the lost instructional
time?"

And the biggest one:

"CAN WE HAVE OUR WEEK BACK IN THE
MIDDLE OF AUGUST since we were coming
in early to prepare for the nasty things?"

If anyone has hard facts, I'm hoping someone
like Christine Gordillo , can you please post?

Thank you!

Hi Alesia,

The PARCC tests are the standardized
tests our kids have been taking in Lakewood
City Schools and around the country.

Here is what the acronym stands for: The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is a consortium of states and the District of Columbia that are working to create and deploy a standard set of K-12 assessments in mathematics and English.

Your question reminded me of a link my
son sent to me. I will put it in a separate post.

Hi Betsy,

I spoke with the Superintendent about your question and he informed me that the only changes he is aware of that are in the works is House Bill 74, which has passed the House and is under consideration in the Senate. I've attached a link below to a Columbus Dispatch story explaining the bill. He reiterated that any changes will come from the lawmakers in Columbus.

As far as changing the calendar, the calendar will not change no matter what the Legislature decides. A big reason for starting earlier next year and ending before Memorial Day is to give our construction crews more time in the summer to complete work on our new buildings.

Thanks for the questions.
