Mayor says: "Like most of us, you're probably not using the hospital. Only 2600 admissions in 2013." (But when I asked him, he replied that was 43,800 inpatient days. That's 120 beds full for 365 days; and it was 8% of our citizens or 1 person out of every 12 homes.)
And he forgets that those who DO use the hospital, PAY for their use. It's more than enough pay to cover the legitimate expenses.
We have 52,000 residents (about 15,300 homes). How many are using our various facilities?
I say:
Like most of us, you're probably not using the . . .
Soccer pitch at Tyler Field (# games or practices there?) . . .
Foster Pool at Lakewood Park (# of pool passes sold?) . . .
The Lakewood Public Library (# of library cards?) . . .
The Lakewood Courtroom (# times you were in court?) . . .
The Lakewood Jail (# times you've stayed overnight?) . . .
The Lakewood Police (# times you called for help?) . . .
The Lakewood Fire Department (# of fires you had at home?) . . .
The Lakewood Building Department (# of inspections?) . . .
Maybe, EVEN the Lakewood Schools (# of families with kids in school?) (but we PAY for that, it's not a city service) . . .
Football field at LHS? . . . At Garfield? . . .
Softball field at Harding? . . .
The Skate Park? . . .
Let's not forget . . . THE DOG PARK! . . .
City Council (# of citizens they actually listened to?) . . .
THE MAYOR'S OFFICE ('nuf said) . . .
Really, when you boil it all down, the only things that EVERYBODY in Lakewood uses, are: Water Department; Rubbish Removal; the Weather Alarm; Streets Department; Traffic Lights and Street Lights.
Maybe we should run the city with Supervisors in Water and Rubbish and Streets. Take City Hall and put a Rec Center there. Cut the taxes to .25%. Move Rubbish and Streets departments into the Annex on the south side of Detroit (currently Tax and Water). Keep the Garage. Keep the Lakewood Dump (it looks nice now that they painted it white and the roof doesn't leak).
