This afternoon around 2:30pm a call came in that a person or persons had fallen through
the ice off of Homewood. Police and fire responded immediately to Lakewood Park, the
ramp, and Homewood in an effort to sport the person(s).

The stories coming in were confusing at first, anywhere from 1-6 people on the ice, now
not on the ice, someone seeing someone fall in.

Police and Fire use binoculars at Lakewood Park to find kids.

Slabs are 3-4" wide not 12-24"!

Finally a story came together as juveniles ages 11-12 we found walking along the cliffs
and trying to get back up the cliff.

They said one of their friends, a 12-year-old make, fell through the ice, but they were
able to get him out, and to the shoreline.

While this one has a happy ending, this is the time of year people get stuck on ice flows,
and fall through ice and drown. It is especially dangerous to walk as a group onto ice
anytime of year without knowing how think it is. One crack, everyone goes in.

This is why Lakewood Fire practice ice rescues, today, luckily, it was not needed.

Be smart, be safe.

At 4pm yesterday, more kids were observed walking out onto the ice.

Parents, warn your kids, it is not safe.
