Yikes! Where exactly did this happen? From the looks of what's left of the car, he must have been flying . . so sad and tragic. Fortunately, no pedestrians were in the way.

Really, for that amount of damage, it's a miracle no one else was hurt. There are people walking dogs, walking between bars, just out and about at that time of night.

The accident dragged on and spread debris over a 300' trail. On a summer night waling on Detroit
at 10:50pm they could have been handfuls of equally drunk people walking between bars.

A half a block away and there is still heavy debris.

100lb piece of car, 300+ feet away!

Lakewood Fire and Police always do an excellent job, but at 40 minutes a trip to Metro, or Fairview
this would have been a real nightmare with others involved.

Another night in Lakewood...

It's being reported that his name was John Vitanza. Lakewood police claim he was driving at a high rate of speed - about 75 miles per hour.
Interestingly, the man has been reported missing since December of 2014.

I think it's a miracle he didn't take anyone else with him. 75 down Detroit!!

Ultimately, no amount of air bags or safety features can defy the laws of physics. I am just so tempted to say the ***hole deserved to die because of his recklessness but I'll pass on that.
My sympathies go out to the police and fire who had to deal with this crash.

Very ironic. He and his parents lived next door to my brother and his family. That was 35-40 years ago in Eastlake. Good parents, nice kids. I'm shocked.

Stan, I'm totally with you. If he survived I would want him locked up forever. There should never be anything traveling at that speed in our city.
