Bill, they ridiculed him before that prediction, they ridiculed him after the post.

It is what they do in Lakewood, marginalize, scoff, ridicule, anything that doesn't flow
with them. Tell them openly you don't want to be in their club, and they say crazy stuff.
Openly challenge them, and they will make rude comments to you as a board member
openly laughing at you, as they work to run you out.

The did it with Ken Warren 6 time Library Director of the year. They did it to Matt top
government lawyer/schools in the state, that gave up $60,000 a year to sit on the
School Board, while they hand friends contracts and perks.

This city is run through peer pressure and a high school clubby mentality that is sick.

But what do I know?

This city could be so nice if they were just honest and grew up.

Did I miss an official announcement? Or is this more speculation?

I'm not trying to ridicule anyone but I am trying to separate fact from fiction from rumor, which is definitely difficult these days.

Is the hospital officially becoming a rec center and, if so, could someone post the link to the announcement as I can't find it anywhere. Thanks!

I suppose Bill was speculating, as the announcement is at 10:30am tomorrow.

As for me, I am venting. If this city could grow up, and actually see what they
have, take a step back and engage the residents, really, honestly, effectively
it could be so much better.

Virtually 100% of my sources have shut up, since the package was delivered, and even if
they haven't, they deserve the space to make the announcement, then reply, then see
where the chips fall. They wouldn't even tell me when the packages were delivered.

I cannot see anyone moving out of Lakewood because of this, effects will be slow, and
everyone will have to adjust. Now if they roll this out in a big media circus, then maybe
they will affect people and businesses that might be thinking of Lakewood, but they would
never do that. Even fools know you don't hang the "unmentionables out in the front yard."

Lakewood is not a health care desert. But 600 medical jobs!!!!!

PS - The word Rec Center was officially dropped by the city from the conversation months
ago, in favor of the less offensive and more nebulous "Wellness Center." So, to be accurate
in a search for facts and Bill's comment. Matt Markling's prediction of a Rec Center will
certainly be wrong. But as any student of Nostradamus would know, is that he also spelled
Hitler's name Hister in his quatrains. So perhaps, Bill's analogy is correct.

It's all to hard to follow, and we are but 14 hours away.

Rec center, nursing home, or wellness center. Makes no difference. We still will not have a hospital. Maybe some think that's no big deal, but wait until you have a medical emergency - trouble breathing, an accident, possible heart attack or whatever and then tell me it's ok to take the extra time to get to Fairview or Jacobs to get looked at.

Maybe some people are Pollyannas - bad things never happen to them.

The nursing home idea is the best of the imperfect options, and would keep a lot of healthcare jobs in town.

If I were "Frank Luntzing" this operation, I would use the term "Health Campus".

I would love to claim a fourth point for the Observer but I would not feel right. Bill Call
has predicted nearly every day since this project started, Lakewood Hospital is closing.
Now as much as I would like to call it a prediction, it hardly seems fair.

Now what is really crazy, follow this, it will blow your mind. City Hall was in the meetings,
and none of the Observers even knew who were at the meetings or when they were.
FREAKY!

Despite JOB's numerous self-congratulatory posts, the answer is "NO".

The conspiracy buffs here have spent months predicting "The Michael P. Summers Recreation Center".
At one point a nadatorium was even added to this hypothetical facility.

Instead it's an emergency room with geriatric, diabetes, and cardiac facilities.
That doesn't sound very recreational to me.

Instead of a pool and basketball courts, perhaps the kids will have fun playing with the radiology equipment.

Contrary to JOB's spin, the difference between a rec center and a medical facility is not mere semantics. I doubt you'll find much blood testing being done at the Rocky River Rec Center.

Bill Call has been saying forever the Clinic is leaving. FOR THE RECORD I am the guy telling
him how wrong he was for 7 years. But why let facts get in the way?

Matt Markling spoke of a Rec Center only after Mayor Summers and Dru Siley presented it
to the School Board on the January 14th meeting at Horace Mann. Other members of the
school board and who were at the meeting have confirmed this. But again why let facts
get in the way of a great rant. Nostradamus, hardly. A good Observer talking about what
is going on in his city, absolutely. Again where is the spin? All Facts.

Yesterday, at the meeting, were you there? Did you read the white papers and reports?
Have you spoken to Board members? Did you record it? Well I have. NO LICENSED
HOSPITAL BEDS, NO OVER NIGHT CARE, aka No Hospital, The LHF will be re-purposed
POSSIBLY as a health foundation. At the meeting it was said the money could be used
for other healthy OR Development downtown. This would be the major points of my article.

I can let this one fad away, but I can sum this up so perfectly in a quote the other day,
about one of the three here... "I know he is right, but I just hate the way he does it." So
they would rather have lies and BS if it is delivered nicely?

There is no award for this. We took the only deal we could get. That is a fact. For two
years they have been trying to figure out who to get, and then how to spin it.

Michael, you have to wake up. You are being played.

I do not believe we need a hospital, I do not believe we need the Clinic, I do believe we
need serious development in downtown to replace 1,100 medical jobs, and keep people
here, I do not think the Board is evil. I think they took what they could. For the life of me
I will never figure out why the city refuses to trust the residents.

The medical facility you speak of, is on the front strip of property, leaving 80% of the rest
for development. Look at the picture, it appears as a park, it will be the center, but it is
hard to announce it before the committee tell us we need it.

Look at the BS over hoops, pit bulls, dogs, and on and on and on and on. City Hall is here
to protect us, not spin us. There is no prize in this. But when good people get trashed for
standing up and telling what they know and it's the truth, it's just nuts, and so Lakewood.

The Observer Project was started because we found the rumors on the street to be more
accurate than the spin coming from around the city. It was started because when it came
to many things, City Hall could not be trusted, and our civic leaders ran quick with the truth.

I am glad to hear that an ER Department and Cardiac Care Unit (for my own personal reasons) will remain in Lakewood. I would have a difficult time with my own active children living in a community without an Emergency Room.

I do see the inconvenience in losing the hospital beds when it comes to visiting patients but there are several top notch facilities in the area that can, and will, absorb the bed space. If the ER Department determines that someone needs to be admitted to a hospital, transferring patients (though understandably undesirable) is quick and simple - as I have experienced. Personally, I do not mind traveling to other local hospitals to visit patients.

Bottom line for me is that the ER remains. A community this size without an ER could not survive - literally.

Don't count on it. ERs are probably the lest economically viable element of a hospital, do you really believe a stand alone ER will be here long? Just like all the other CCF promises over the years this one will end up being a lie too. If we are lucky it will start as an ER then be made into a limited hours urgent care then probably gone.
Hopefully your or my family will never need real emergency care while in Lakewood because it will be more and more likely our rescue squads will be busy at driving between Fairview or Crocker Park. Plus those without insurance will need to be shipped to Metro or given a couple bucks to catch the 26 to w 25th. I guess we can rely on mutual aid from River or Bay. Smaller cities and closer to real hospitals they might the have extra time to serve Lakewood.
