What Did You Do Saturday? LA's TEAM ALLISON Saved Another!

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

While many of us were getting our homes in order, LakewoodAlive Housing Outreach Director
Allison Urbnek and her crew "Team Allison" saved another residential structure. This time
a historic garage!

Her crew this time while I was there, Tom Ostromek, Dan Folino, Steve Banhidy, and
Mark McNamera.

For me, it was trip back to Lakewood's past, and maybe our future when I walked up the
drive, just as Allison was delivering lunch to everyone.

And old pigeon garage. Pigeon racing was big at the turn of the century, and many garages
in Lakewood, and Cleveland had pigeon coops. some of them were still around when I was
a kid, and I remember one on Rockway that had maybe 50 birds, one on Nicholson that
had maybe 100 birds, and another one in "Overlook Park," which is not near the street Overlook.
Anyway, a typical pigeon garage of the 20s being saved and getting a roof.

New roof, and some wood.

Long overdue.

Thanks gain to LakewoodAlive and their Housing Outreach Program. Helping residents
maintain value in their homes, is good for the community!

While we enjoy the city, let's not forget those working their asses off to make it better.

Thank you to the Observer for covering our volunteer projects. These projects (and their owners/occupants) and the groups and individuals who come together make these projects a success and are the reason that I come to work everyday. I am so thankful for being surrounded by such generous and selfless people.

Thank you to all of our volunteer groups who helped to accomplish 30 projects from April-October this year. We are a small but mighty staff and could not accomplish these goals without our volunteers and friends throughout the community.

Thank you for your support and Go Team Allison!

If one wanted to volunteer time or money, or were so busy all they could do was write a check,
How would they do it?
