During the beginning of the recent storm, about 7:45pm an 11-year-old boy was struck by a
car traveling West on Clifton Blvd. The driver and other cars stopped immediately. Luckily
Fire Chief Scott Gilman was out walking by shortly after it occured. "I was the first one there,
I was just out walking the neighborhood, when I saw the people in a panic."
The Fire Department was there within minutes, and they worked to stabilize the victim as
they took him to the pediatric trauma unit at Metro Hospital.
Thoughts and prayer with the family of the boy.

From a witness to the accident...
"I was there waiting to turn left onto Belle. It was just before the rain storm, 7:25 pm.
He ran across Clifton in front of my car and another just after the light turned green.
The right lane was vacant, which is why the car in that lane proceeded through the intersection at speed.
He had no way to see the boy. The boy was thrown almost all of the way across Belle.
I hope that he will be ok, and please tell your children to be safe when crossing streets."

The boy suffered a fractured skull, and I have been told by a friend of the mother, he will be fine
with a full recovery thanks to Lakewood Fire Department, and the man walking by Fire Chief Scott Gilman!

"He is healing at home and will be okay. Plenty of rest and care not to get active at all for a few weeks. His Dad....."
