Police Arrest... An Ounce Of Prevention Is Worth...

Witness watches police, after arresting a male for "petty theft," on Cordova.

Early today after a 45 min "chase" the police arrested yet another male for "petty theft" which
is usually what happens when they get arrested for "breaking into cars" and "breaking into
garages." The reason for the quotes around "braking and entering" is that the police would
LOVE to charge these criminals with breaking into something, but they do not have to
because every night we leave cars unlocked, garages open, purses, cameras, phones, CDs
out in plan sight.

The other morning while walking my Dogue, an officer stopped by and we talked about the
recent "group of break-ins." At one point he smiled and said, "I have been on the police force
about 5 years, I have only seen two or three car windows actually broken."

I know many of us like to go back "To the good old days in Lakewood, when you could leave
your door unlocked, and..." those were actually fantasy days, as even back in the 60s,
garages were getting broken into, stuff was missing, and nothing was broken while getting
into it. A romantic dream of the past.

Criminals, and punks take the area of least resistance. Coming home from the bar after a
bunch of beer, who doesn't try car doors at 2am? If you agreed turn yourself in now!
Seriously, the biggest reason for the "crime wave" are the victims.

LOCK YOUR CAR.

CLOSE YOUR GARAGE DOORS

LOCK YOUR HOUSE

You will be safe, and wake up with everything in your car.

Leave your purse and money in the car with the window down, your address will be featured
on the police radio sooner or later as, "Missing items from cars on Lincoln..."

Be smart, an ounce of prevention is worth dealing with punks, the police, line-ups, court.

And remove the valuables from your car. People leave laptops, phones, GPS, money, wallets, credit cards......all sort of stuff in their cars. Theft from auto is a lucrative crime with less risk than breaking into a house and lower penalties.

And it's not like its so bad in Lakewood. I know of communities where people have told me they leave their glove boxes hanging open to show there is nothing in the car and purposely do not lock doors so their windows do not get broken.

well, I don't. and none of my hard working friends who enjoy "a bunch of beer" at the bars that I frequent in Lakewood don't either.

I know that you love to blame the bar scene in Lakewood for many of this city's woes but I think you are misguided in this way of thinking.

Kate

That was what we call a joke.

Get it, I don't do it either. However the police say it is common.

I do not blame the bar scene for anything they do not do or cause.

Two weeks ago at 1pm... passed out on the sidewalk.

Hard to blame the bar scene for this alcohol related arrest.

Drunks, do not always come from bars.
