Cleveland Clinic officials have been hosting tours of Lakewood Hospital. The most recent tourists were representatives of Metro Health.
Why would the Clinic host the tour?
Why would Metro want the tour?
Is Metro Health looking for a temporary home during future planned construction?
Since the City of Lakewood owns the Hospital shouldn't City officials be in on the tour?
Should the City just say no to a short term lease to Metro?
This weekend I had a short conversation with a person who works at the hospital. He said that Lakewood's orthopedic unit has a great reputation and makes a lot of money for the Hospital. He said it's scheduled to be moved in 18 months. He couldn't understand why the Clinic would move money making units out of Lakewood.
I wonder about that too.
Here is the Hospital's web site:
http://my.clevelandclinic.org/locations ... tment.aspx
This is an interesting quote from the site:
"Cleveland Clinic Rehabilitation Hospital at Lakewood Hospital is the hub of rehabilitation services for Cleveland's west side."
If all of Lakewood Hospitals rehabilitation services are being moved to Lorain County is Lakewood Hospital still the "hub of rehabilitation services for Cleveland's west side"?
If Lakewood Hospital is no longer the "hub of rehabilitation services for Cleveland's west side"then isn't that news?
Each time the Clinic wanted to water down service at the hospital the promise was made to increase service in some other area.
Was the Vision for Tomorrow
a con-artists scam?

I find it amazing that there are only a few hundred hits on this topic.....The largest employer in Lakewood and the core of downtown. Yet over 10,000 hits on basketball hoops. Not that the latter is not important, but what is more important to the continued viability of all the City?

One reason may be that our City Leaders have done such a good job of marginalizing Bill Call on this issue that nobody believes that he is right now and was right then.
Wake up, Lakewood!
City Hall is and has been lying to our residents about the state of the Lakewood Hospital.
The fact that Bill Call was right doesn't make City Hall's lies less egregious.
Demand that Mayor Mike Summers and City Council tell us the truth about the future of the Lakewood Hospital.
- So, Lakewood Hospital isn't closing, Mike?
Demand that Mayor Mike Summers and City Council tell us the truth about the property tax they want to sneak by us to pay for the "Michael P. Summers Recreation Center & Natatorium" that is being planned for the soon to be vacant Lakewood Hospital location.
- So, you aren't planing a recreation property tax increase, Mike?
Demand that Mayor Mike Summers and City Council tell us the truth about everything going on at City Hall.

There were over 40,000 hits on the post about the bar fight and only one or two of those new visitors looked at any other post.
The Clinic is closing down Lakewood Hospital. That has been the plan from the day they signed the lease. All of the talk about "centers of excellence" and "vision for tomorrow" was just a lie wrapped in a falsehood; a con mans con game
The only reason the Clinic leased the hospital was to make it weak and uncompetitive and leave behind an empty shell.
When J. D. Rockefeller bought a competing refinery he closed it down. The Clinic thinks the same way. Their business plan use to be to attract patients from all over the world to support a world class institution that could not be supported by Cleveland alone. That model is failing.
Hospitals around the country and around the world with much bigger pockets are providing service that is just as good or better and the problem for the Clinic will only get worse. The Clinic understands that truth and that truth is the driving force behind the current policy of:
buying the local doctors practice and closing it down and monopolizing local health care. That policy provides the illusion of growth and delays the day of reckoning for a few more years. Just beyond the retirement of the current leadership. After that? Chaos.
The Clinic expands locally but the total number of local jobs actually declines. In the short term that is good for the Clinic but bad for local communities and patients. For the long term just think of the Cleveland Clinic as the General Motors of the hospital industry.
Ultimately the Clinic will do as much for Cleveland as GM did for Detroit.
I first heard about the Clinics plan for a new medical facility in Avon over 10 years ago. It wasn't a great leap to conclude that:
they would also be building a hospital in Avon
and
that the only way the economics would work is if they closed Lakewood Hospital.
What I don't understand is our political leaderships quiet acceptance of the Hospitals destruction. If we are going down can't we at least go down fighting?
If we knew the truth about the Ameritrust deal we would know how long the little conspiracy has been going on, who stands to gain and why the leadership is so silent. Think that an odd statement? Think about it.
What is one third of one billion dollars?

Bill,
They are fighting.
But City Hall is fighting to see the Lakewood Hospital destroyed.
The residents are City Hall's enemy in this battle.

How long will Metro wait? Is the plan to wait out the clock?
