There is a rumour going around today that Grant Elementary is not going to be rebuilt. That is absolutely FALSE. Grant will be rebuilt and is in the planning process.

Ed,

I'm can't imagine that you're speaking on behalf of the BOE:

BOARD OF EDUCATION RESPONSIBILITIES:
is a policy making body functioning according to the mandates of state law;
represents the state of Ohio and the citizens of Lakewood on all matters and decisions dealing with public education;
is nonpartisan and nonsectarian as it speaks and acts for the community; and;
acts as a committe-of-the-whole on matters requiring official decisions. No Board member has independent authority to speak for the Board.

Scott, thanks for the Yanni music, it calmed me down after I clicked on this thread. I don't know about Mr. Favre's official permission to speak, but if something is going on that's threatening our kids' future in any way I'm glad he did.

WHAT rumors that Grant will not be rebuilt? This sounds like the bad old days of Phase 3. It has been so nice to have the community at peace over taking good care of all of our school children for the future.

What do the rumors say about why, Ed? Rumors come from somewhere.

Has the idea of a Crocker Park style shopping development that's "better" for Lakewood than a school on Grant's location reared its head again? Or maybe another Cleveland Clinic "campus"? Did we miscalculate about how much money all of this would cost-- especially with the citizens of Lakewood having agreed to pay WAY more than the state of Ohio is supposed to? (Like Cleveland public schools? Slashing individual school budgets AFTER they got their big levy passed?)

If there is anything going on with this massive demolition/rebuilding project that puts having enough schools in the appropriate places to house our children for the future at risk--- we'd better take a good look at the whole thing before we tear down three of our good, serviceable elementary school buildings all at the same time, this summer, leaving our kids nowhere to go to school. That's coming right up.

A Grant School Fact: "The original Grant School on the east side of Victoria Ave., south of Detroit Ave. The building is now used by the Lakewood Board of Education." http://images.ulib.csuohio.edu/cdm/ref/collection/lakewood/id/1492.

A Grant School Fact:: The Lakewood City School District has a rich history of providing an outstanding system of public education. The Grant School has been an important part of that wonderful history.

Gee...

Have we just discovered something NEW about Lakewood? :shock:

When I was in school, we were taught that America was discovered by Columbus in 1492.

That's 27 years later than the date on the Grant plaque. :shock:

Of course, we later learned that the Vikings came to America about a thousand years ago....

Did Vikings found Grant School, or maybe the Templars? :shock:

Do we have a new mystery here? A new Lakewood conspiracy theory perhaps? :shock:

Adding to that, Grant was a Civil War general in 1865, right? That's a long time after 1465... :shock:

Or maybe they were just referring to the school's address on Warren? :wink:

I guess sometimes government stuff just needs a bit more clarification from time to time. :D

Back to the banjo... :D

It just refers to 1465 Victoria Avenue, Gary.

Or does it?

Tonight is the last community meeting the District is having (for now) with architects to discuss what will go on with the rebuilding of Lakewood High School.

Everyone will be in the house tonight if anyone wants to make sure that discussion of Grant not being rebuilt is just a rumor. We know it didn't come up at the Grant meeting -- the cost of how much each of these new buildings is going to cost is relevant to how much the other ones cost.

If there are issues with the cost of this project, and any notion that it being done in its entirety is at risk--- come on out and ask about how this is all supposed to work.

There are some that have voiced concern over the fact that the new buildings are not yet designed. The goal I assume is that however they are designed, the costs fit the amount of money we have to build them. I know, great idea.

I'll bump the other thread up for details. I think it's at LHS at 7pm, tonight, Tuesday, the 22nd.
