Happy Thanksgiving

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

While you stop on this day to give thanks, stop and think of how you can give others
something to be thankful about.

peace

... and would it really be Thanksgiving without this 18 minute and a half tradition?

Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant"

And I leave you today with this nugget of wisdom from fellow Bay Stater, Henry David Thoreau:

“I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual. It is surprising how contented one can be with nothing definite - only a sense of existence. Well, anything for variety. I am ready to try this for the next ten thousand years, and exhaust it. How sweet to think of! my extremities well charred, and my intellectual part too, so that there is no danger of worm or rot for a long while. My breath is sweet to me. O how I laugh when I think of my vague indefinite riches. No run on my bank can drain it, for my wealth is not possession but enjoyment.” ~Henry David Thoreau
"So, let's make the most of this beautiful day.
Since we're together we might as well say:
Would you be mine? Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?"

Today, and every day in my house we are thankful that we are all together, in our house, our family, our community, in this beautiful place.

While I wait for the last five minutes to see what happened with this pie we are trying to make (what does "until filling is puffed" mean?) I thought I'd check in here and thank you, my fellow Deck readers and writers-- people who have taught me a lot about being in a community and trying to make it better, from many many different points of view, all with one thing in common, how much everyone cares.

Thankful for great friends. Great places to walk and talk and climb and escape like the famous Emerald Canyon.

Thankful for one of the most beautiful, fun, relaxing places in the world to live.

Okay, the pie might be done.

Happy Thanksgiving. Thank you all.

Here's the the chocolate pecan pretzel pie. Not sure if it puffed or not. Thanks to Drug Mart for the crust.
