Okay, Lakewood, let’s have a discussion.
Who should be appointed to fill Tom Bullock’s vacant Ward 2 Councilperson position now that Tom has been elected to an At Large Councilperson position?
And who will be appointed?

Marx - 3,717 votes / 21.87%
O'Leary - 3584 votes / 21.08%
Sam O'Leary was beat out of third place by a mere 133 votes by Cindy Marx (or 0.79%). That's hardly an overwhelming popular mandate.
I say, if Mr O'Leary is a Ward 2 resident (and I think he is), he has earned the Ward 2 seat vacated by Mr. Bullock.

I have faith that council will appoint a ward 2 resident with the appropriate qualifications and a desire to serve the people.
Dan Sheilds name comes to mind. He came in second to Tom Bullock (out of two) a few years ago.
Matt, what side of the street are you on? Ward 2 or 3? If 2, then you should submit your application.

I have no "inside information" on the subject, but I would not assume that Mr. O'Leary will be chosen.
I've followed council elections for over 20 years.
We've had numerous council openings over the years due to resignations and "call-ups" to the state legislature. I'm not sure I've ever seen the "Miss America System" (i.e. promotion of first runner up) ever invoked.

First,
We have to wait until the new council is sworn in. Until then there are no vacancies. Their
first duties are budget and that appointment.
They usually chose someone who is unelectable for various reasons, and then that person
can run as a kind of incumbent with a better chance for an election.
Rarely do the pick, the highest vote getter in the previous election.
I would say, Tom George, he could represent 2 on the fly, he was a councilman, and mayor. It would be extremely handy to have someone budget savvy, and Tom would be
solid.
Where is Ryan Demro?
.

Who should be: Nadhal Eadeh

Who will be: Tommy Hen
Has been lurking along in the shadows...just waiting for the opportunity.

I think maybe it's time for some new blood since they have a choice. I'd rather not see a former mayor in that role.

Scott,
I agree.
Nadhal Eadeh deserves to be on the list of those who "should" be appointed.

Ryan Demro lives in Gahanna and just ran for Ward 3 Councilman there this last election. He lost to the incumbent 1083 to 828.

Here are some additional names to consider:
Deb Sweeney
Corey Rossen
Betsy Voinovich
Christina Gill McCallum
Kristine Pagsuyoin
City Hall appears to already be grooming Dru Siley for an appointment as mayor, so it won’t be him.
The smart move is Bill Call. See

Matt-- your name should certainly be on that list.
Betsy Voinovich

Chris
I spoke with Ryan before I posted that.
His family still maintains a home in the Ward 2 area.
Though he does not see himself coming back for an appointment that would never happen.

Chris Bindel may also be on the short list.
As The Lakewood Observer's city council reporter, Chris certainly knows more about what is going on at City Hall than many folks.

When is the application deadline?
I can't seem to find it at
http://www.onelakewood.com.
And I may have missed the tweet.
