Halloween Window Warriors

In the nick of time, the Halloween Window Warriors converged on their various sites and got their window paintings done ahead of the rain... but not the cold weather! Pink noses were on every face as kids mixed colors, climbed ladders, painted and stood back to observe their masterpieces, pausing only for warm cinnamony tea offered by the fabulous new cafe at the Beck Center, "Coffee Proper."
On Detroit, in front of Coffee Proper, different designs went up, some quickly, some in layer after layer depending on the artists as the kids called encouragement to each other and the moms and dads said hi to each other and mentioned that it seemed like we were just doing this... could it already be another year?
ON the Beck building itself, the artists suddenly appeared, each with their own task, and suddenly the headless horseman appeared to be coming at us out of the window.
Back on Detroit, teenagers sip coffee in the sky on the window of Coffee Proper, too cool to be wearing vampire teeth or devil's horns or anything orange for a Halloween window. I was told that they "are in costume."
Last night's and today's rain may have already eliminated these paintings, the judging might all be of photographs this year, but it will all be worth it anyway for the honor and experience of painting the many canvases offered by Detroit Rd.
Thanks Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, Beck Center, businesses who put up with the paint that never quite comes out of the cracks year after year, and the families of Lakewood, who never quit.
