Kauffman Park Master Plan at Planning Commission Oct 3

Post by Peter Grossetti »

From our friends, The Kauffman Park Friends:

The Kauffman Park Master Plan is going before the Planning Commission and Planning Director one more time (we hope), and we need to gather as many supporters as we can for that meeting. It is Thursday evening, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Auditorium (12650 Detroit Ave.). We’ve come up with a few more specifics, and refined our list of priorities, and we hope the Commission will vote to give the plan its approval so we can start moving forward. The more people who come and speak on behalf of the park improvements, the better. Thank you in advance.
"So, let's make the most of this beautiful day.
Since we're together we might as well say:
Would you be mine? Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?"

Kauffman Park Vision Plan – Presentation to Director Siley, Planning & Development and Lakewood Planning Commission
The City’s Park System Master Plan outlined principles to prioritize improvement to all of Lakewood’s parks. The plan envisioned that master plans for individual would be developed that identified specific improvements based on specific needs, size and location of a park. The Friends of Kauffman Park in partnership with LakewoodAlive facilitated a public input process to develop a draft vision for future improvements to Kauffman Park. Bryans Evens of J Created donated design services and produced the document. The team presented the draft for discussion with the Planning Commission at the July 10, 2013 meeting.

(Peter: Thanks for coming. Here's the message I'm sending out about tonight's meeting:)

Big news for Kauffman Park: The Planning Commission conceptually approved our Master Plan tonight and will incorporate it into the Citywide parks Master Plan. This is a big deal because it marks the end of the planning process and the beginning of our being able to make improvements. With the Master Plan, we can start applying for grants and other money that is available. Many thanks to all the Kauffman Park Friends, the City, the Planning Commission, but especially the Lakewood Alive Design Committee and Ian Andrews, Sean McDermott, and particularly Bryan Evans who donated his professional services to put a plan together that greatly impressed everyone who saw it.
