Here is a collection of the ordinances governing the typical door to door solicitor that may happen to be on the streets of Lakewood.

Note that if you call City Hall to complain about violations, City Hall will do absolutely nothing.

I have firsthand knowledge of the "We cannot enforce the law on the books" response on this issue.

But, here it is anyway.

Attached is a collection of the ordinances governing the typical door to door solicitor that may happen to be on the streets of Lakewood.

Permits are required for most solicitors and peddlers. Please take note of the definitions of these two terms.

There are restrictions as to when and where solicitors may operate. See 741.05

Certain groups are excepted from obtaining a permit. See 741.10. These groups are charitable, non-profit organizations and their workers should have some paperwork detailing this.

If there are ever any questions about the permit status of solicitors or peddlers, or problems or concerns with their behavior or overly aggressive or suspicious sales tactics, call the police. An officer will be sent out and if the person is located, they will be identified and their permit status verified.

True Story, A friend of my living in Bay Village had his cell phone stolen out of his car in the driveway after he turned away door to door kids selling cookies or something for a youth program. He noticed the theft a few minutes later. I suppose the Bay Village police have some time on their hands because they were on the case in no time and recovered the phone from a van full of kids 20 minutes later.

Not really a point to that story but I thought it fit.

I am not to keen on the door to door kids selling whatnot only because they either ring the doorbell in the middle of dinner or when I'm trying to get kids to sleep. They must like my street because I see then once ever week and a half.
