The Observation Deck

Lakewood has lots of connections to a show opening Saturday at Zygote Press. Zygote director and LHS grad Liz Maugans has put together "Trades," an exhibit of works by union workers in collaboration with print makers associated with Zygote.

As it happens, there are lots of Lakewood connections, in addition to Ms. Maugans. Retired mail carrier April Stolz, for example, has been working with woodcut printer Claudio Orso and made a great print honoring "The People's Delivery Service." Former Lakewood resident Matt Ospelt has been working with Denise Stewart.

I've been working on letterpress machines with Lakewood resident and Lincoln Elementary teacher Sean McGuan. One block at a time, Sean and I have been building up what will eventually be a six-color portrait of Lincoln Elementary, which as most of you reading this probably know will be demolished for the construction of a new school building as part of Phase Three of the district's complete renovation / reconstruction program.

Hey, Mike, another Lakewood connection is Matt Gregg. I don't know what artist he's working with, but I know he has been working on this project.

Indeed, it might be good to know where & when.

Zygote is at 1410 East 30th. The opening is 1-3 pm.
