Hey Chautauqua is here! The big red and white tent is up at Lakewood Park, and tonight, rain or shine (I know it seems to be raining quite a bit right this minute) Oliver Hazard Perry himself will regale the crowd about the Battle of Lake Erie. You will be shocked to hear about how young he was, and the crazy way he eventually came out on top.

The evening opens at 6 pm with musical entertainment, then at 7pm, Oliver Perry will take the stage.

If you feel like getting out of the rain, free tours of the Old Stone House are being offered from 4 to 6 pm.

Tomorrow you can meet Chief John Logan, Thursday, it's York, Friday it's Margaret Blennerhasset and Saturday, for the concluding night, Johnny Appleseed/John Chapman, famously rendered on the front of Lakewood High School, and then de-titled if that's a word. Like ex-Sinagra Park. Now he's the "Early Settler."

There is entertainment every night, featuring some local favorites who will perform era-accurate songs. Vive L'Four, The Webb Trio, Foster Brown and Foster Brown, to name a few.

If you've never gone to one of these performance, they are amazing. Not only are the actors wonderful, they've done their homework about the historical figures they are playing and will answer questions in character!

Don't let the rain scare you.

Opening night's rain still brought out a nice crowd.
