Posting this is a great disservice to everyone involved. It also sends the completely wrong message.

So am I to pass along the message, go ahead and drink and drive just don't drive along Detroit Avenue?

I see no value in passing the message/link along. Stay off the roads if you plan to drink and drive, I have a family to protect.

My 8 year old and I intentionally went to one of these after a cavs game a few months ago just to show him what happens and we had a chance to talk about the consequences and potential harm drinking and driving can cause. I am glad they do these, not only to catch idiots but to remind people to be safe and always be aware of drivers around you, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.

Corey,

I think it is good to know about these for non drinkers to avoid the area - it does slow traffic and if you cut out of line they will come after you. I doubt folks that do drink then drive will even remember where it is :)

Ryan - I agree, they are great to have...unannounced. I do not think announcing them reminds people to be safe, but rather to be cautious if you have a few drinks in you and you happen to be in the area.

I think it is great that you took your son to "experience" one, I have always been a huge advocate of "teaching moments" (maybe that is why I enjoy coaching so much). I can only image the wide eyes of a child seeing an arrest being made, definitely impactful. Kudos to you.

Corey,

I believe prior notice has been required since the early 90's. The supreme court basically said it is required because otherwise it would be considered a detention without reasonable suspicion. Thankfully they still catch a lot of idiots.

Maybe in lakewood but river dogs are too high to drive. :-)

I did not know it was a law to disclose, I have always thought it was people trying to announce a shady way to get away with drunk driving.
