Will City Hall Stop Censoring Its Ward 3 Facebook Page?

I don’t think it is fair to continue the discussion of City Hall censoring and/or banning folks from its Ward 3 Facebook Page on the “Will Shawn Juris Support Issue 14 for Ward 3 and the City?” thread at http://www.lakewoodobserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11745 so I moved the discussion here.

Some folks simply don't like talking over any digital fence ...

Apparently this digital fence wasn't tall enough to hide behind

If I recall, the "Lakewood Ohio Ward 3" FB page didn't say who was behind the digital fence. I surmised it was our Ward 3 Councilman...who else would put up a FB page for only Ward 3? Do you know for a fact that he was running it?

I haven't seen any other Ward Council or At-Large FB pages out there (that doesn't mean there aren't any). I'm sorry to see "Lakewood Ohio Ward 3" go....no matter who was running it.

Peter,

That is a City Hall run Facebook Page. You just need to look at the "About Us" section of the page.

Everything on that City Hall run Facebook Page is and was a public record.

I guess I have an issue with City Hall censoring and/or banning folks from a City Hall run Facebook Page ... public meeting ... forum ... or anything.

I know you said that:

You give Shawn Juris credit for trying.

And I give this kid credit for trying ...

Matt - Okey dokey ... I just wasn't exactly sure where you were going with all that.

Did the Ward 3 FB page indicate that it was in any way, shape or form an "official page for the City of Lakewood, Ohio" (I frankly don't remember) or was it merely a council member trying to use as many tools as possible to reach out to constituents?

And ... just wondering why no other Lakewood City Council member would not use such a powerful tool as FB to interact with their constituents. Perhaps the Law Department has suggested that they don't?

I dunno.

I know Shawn had some epic conversations with constituents on the now-defunct Ward 3 FB page; and like I said, at least he made the effort. It's human nature for constituents to bitch and moan. (Have you ever seen a department stiore with a "Compliments Desk"? No, they have Complaints Desks!)
