I wonder how the Honorable Shawn Juris of Ward 3 will vote.

What? Are you going to tar and feather him if he disagrees? I mean, that seems to be the process around here. And if he does agree with the levy, will it be “move along, nothing to see here, we’ll wait for another opportunity”? I certainly hope not. I do not drop by here often, and I will not post in this discussion again because I do not care to bring snidely written headlines to the top of the forum page. Especially since Shawn is picked on in this forum consistently. Be kind. Ask questions. Be the example of how a community should work together and voice concerns appropriately.

I'm trying to figure out why the OP singled out only one member of Council.

The better question would be: "Which elected Lakewood officials (there is only a handful: City Council, Board, of Education, Mayor and Municipal Judge) support Issue 14 and which oppose Issue 14?"

And a good follow up question would be: "Does any of these elected officials' stances actually change any voters' minds."

I think we've been "Matted".

Based upon my prior conversations with Shawn Juris and the other members of City Council, I believe that Shawn Juris is the only possible "no" vote.

That is a question for April 2nd.

And I have been asking your “better” question previously as you know, Peter.

All five school board members are on record as supporting Issue 14.

Great question, Peter!

In my opinion, if the answer wasn't, "yes," Mayor Mike Summers wouldn't be a levy co-chair. Nor would City Council be voting on whether to support Issue 14.

Kristen

"Are you going to tar and feather him if he disagrees? I mean, that seems to be the process around here."

As witnessed by this comment?

The days of tar and feather have been long gone for the best.

Shawn has not be mentioned on this forum for nearly a year. When a political figure
shies away from the public for any reason I personally believe they begin to lose
credibility, when those officials only speak in forums where they control and edit
questions and answers, it becomes nothing more than a manipulative charade.

I do agree with Peter that it would be fascinating to see where all officials stand on this
levy and other issues. For all I know, Matt, an ex-School Board member might know
where the rest stand, no matter, Matt is speaking for himself, as you spoke for yourself, to
tar and feather the deck and many of the good people who take the high road seems a tad
like well the very thing you are preaching about.

I respect your opinion, and will fight for your right to voice it. But let's look in the mirror
and let he who has not sinned cast the first stone.

FWIW

Jim,

In fairness to Shawn, I have been trying to get him to state his position on the school levy and the Lakewood City Schools, in general, over the past year.

It reminds me of “War Pigs” …

Let's break this down, Kristen.

Kristen Bindel wrote:What? Are you going to tar and feather him if he disagrees?

Of course I’m not going to “tar and feather” Shawn Juris if he refuses to support Issue 14.

Who knows … the good Ward 3 Councilman may be able to put together some coherent arguments as to why the children in his ward and throughout the City of Lakewood should be denied a thorough and efficient system of public education.

Kristen Bindel wrote:I mean, that seems to be the process around here.

As you stated, you “do not drop by here often.”

Most of us here on The Observation Deck engage in civil dialogue about a multitude of issues.

For example, Bill Call is having discussions on Issue 14 on separate threads here ... on The Observation Deck.

Kristen, I have discussed school finance issues with both Bill Call and Shawn Juris; I know Bill Call. Kristen, Shawn Juris is no Bill Call.

Kristen Bindel wrote:And if he does agree with the levy, will it be “move along, nothing to see here, we’ll wait for another opportunity”? I certainly hope not.

If Shawn Juris supports Issue 14, I will be shocked!

And I will gladly post an enthusiastic, “Thank you, Shawn Juris!”

The headline is hardly, “snidely.”

The headline simply states, “Will Shawn Juris Support Issue 14 for Ward 3 and the City?”

I don’t even see a “Snidely Whiplash” reference in this post … until now.

Shawn Juris is an appointed/elected politician. Criticism comes with his job.

To his credit, Shawn Juris never jumps on The Observation Deck and cries, “Poor me. I’m being picked on because people don’t agree with my decisions as the Ward 3 Councilman.” That task seems reserved for his subordinates.

Kristen Bindel wrote:Be kind. Ask questions. Be the example of how a community should work together and voice concerns appropriately.

My headline is, “Will Shawn Juris Support Issue 14 for Ward 3 and the City?” That is a question.

My statement is, “I wonder how the Honorable Shawn Juris of Ward 3 will vote.” Admittedly, I suppose that is also a question.

If Shawn Juris doesn’t support Issue 14, I will kindly attempt to be an example of how Lakewood should work together to appropriately voice its concerns as to Shawn Juris’ opposition to the school levy.

As an aside, my guess is that the City Hall Facebook Page entitled, "Lakewood Ohio Ward 3" and "allegedly" run by Ward 3 Councilman Shawn Juris on behalf of City Hall with 529 "likes" as of the evening of March 29, 2013, will either disappear or certain citizens will be banned/censored from/on that City Hall run forum.

Some folks simply don't like talking over any digital fence ...

I give Shawn all the credit in the world for at least having a FB page and trying to solicit input from his constituents. I believe he is (was) the only council person to go that route!

If I recall, the "Lakewood Ohio Ward 3" FB page didn't say who was behind the digital fence. I surmised it was our Ward 3 Councilman...who else would put up a FB page for only Ward 3? Do you know for a fact that he was running it?

I haven't seen any other Ward Council or At-Large FB pages out there (that doesn't mean there aren't any). I'm sorry to see "Lakewood Ohio Ward 3" go....no matter who was running it.

While he did have some reservations, Lakewood Ward 3 Councilman Shawn Juris did throw his support behind the upcoming levy. (David Lay/The Lakewood Observer)

Thanks, David! And, another great photo.

I can't wait for the full report of the Ward 3 Councilman's reservations but, in the meantime ...

Thank you, Shawn Juris!

How about Issue 84?
