I am a graduate student at Cleveland State University conducting a thesis research project as part of the requirements for the Master of Arts in Psychology (Diversity Management/Organizational Development Specialization).

While the impact of substance abuse in the workplace has been widely researched, there is a gap in the literature concerning the experience of sober alcoholics in the workplace. Researchers in human resource development assert that new information about the experience of sober (recovering/recovered) alcoholics could support new avenues of training in human resource management. At present, there is no data on sobriety and career success as co-occurring phenomena, on social identity negotiation for sober alcoholics in a workplace drinking culture, and so forth.

The purpose of this master's thesis research project is to understand the factors that inform whether or not a sober (recovering/recovered) alcoholic self-discloses his or her alcoholism in the workplace.

I am seeking research participants who are 18 years of age or over who are willing to complete an anonymous online survey about their experience as a sober (recovering/recovered) alcoholic in the workplace. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.
