Mike,
Would you mind forwarding this to your captains to disseminate to their members?
There are a few parking ordinances in Lakewood that some residents, especially those new to our city, are not familiar with. Most parking ordinances are mirrored from city to city, but the following are particularly important in Lakewood, during the winter months, due to the unique design of our streets and high volume of parking/traffic.
- A vehicle cannot park more than one foot from the curb (regardless of snow build up)
- A vehicle cannot block the sidewalk when parked in a driveway
- The city (all year round) has a twenty-four hour parking ordinance. (You may drive and park back in the
same space, but the odometer must change by one mile.)
- A vehicle cannot be parked within three feet of a private driveway, twenty feet from a crosswalk or
intersection or within thirty feet of a stop sign.
- A vehicle cannot be parked on a tree lawn or front lawn (even your own home).
- A vehicle cannot park left of curb (facing the wrong direction)
- Pedestrians are not permitted to walk in the street (walking down the street in lieu of a sidewalk)
It is important to move vehicles from the street, after a significant snow fall, so that plows can have the opportunity to clean the streets.
The Lakewood Library maintains a copy of current Lakewood Codified Ordinances, but if you're reading this, you can simply look up parking and other ordinances on line.
Adherence to the above ordinances will significantly keep our traffic safely flowing during these winter months.
Enjoy the weather!
Thanks,
Matt Wintrick
