2013 9th Annual Sleep Out Successful

Yesterday at 3pm teens, parents and church elders gathered for the 9th Annual Sleep Out
to raise awareness of the homeless and raise money for charities that work to correct the
situation. Yesterday all of the parents were so thankful for the great weather. Dry and only
40 degrees! Yes it was a great day compared to some of the nights the events has fallen on.
It has seen sub-zero temperatures and inches of snow.

The group from St. Peter's Episcopal Church ready for the night ahead.

Across the street Lakewood Congregational had boxes ready, and were inside for one last
moment of warmth and comfort before beginning the night outside.

By 9pm the kids were working the streets asking passers-by for donations to help the
homeless.

It was a hard crew to say no to.

Meanwhile down at The Pilgrim St. Paul Lutheran Church the kids and parents were out holding down Downtown Lakewood.

Parents again were pretty upbeat. At 11pm it was still in the 40s, but by morning the
temperatures dropped to low 20s with wind gusts of over 30mph!

Pretty cold for ranch box living.

By 9am the group from St. Paul and St. Peter's had gone inside for warmth and breakfast.

Across the street at Lakewood Congregational Church they were breaking down the boxes.

And still working the street for donations.
All of the kids and elders claimed it was another great night of raising money for the homeless, and a great time sleeping out in boxes. However none of the kids were envious of those that have to do it without choice, without pizza, without breakfast, without hope. All said they would be back next year!
Good work everyone!
