FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 26, 2012
BLIZZARD WARNING ISSUED FOR DECEMBER 26-27
LAKEWOOD RESIDENTS ARE REMINDED TO MOVE CARS OFF OF THE STREET DURING HEAVY SNOWSTORMS
The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for Cuyahoga County for Wednesday, December 26 thru Thursday, December 27 in anticipation of a significant winter storm. A Blizzard Warning is issued for sustained or gusty winds of 35 mph or more, and falling or blowing snow creating visibilities at or below 1/4 mile. Lakewood residents are reminded that they need to move their cars off of the street during heavy snow so streets can be plowed.
On streets that are posted Emergency Snow Ban streets, whenever there is snow fall of four (4) inches or more within a twenty-four (24) hour period, the emergency snow ban takes effect. The snow ban restrictions on parking take effect without any requirement of an announcement by the City of Lakewood. In the event of a snow fall of four inches or more, parking is not permitted on streets posted as emergency snow ban streets. Motorists should always consult the posted signs, and be advised that in the event of a snow fall of four inches or more, the emergency snow parking bans will be enforced.
A city-wide emergency snow parking ban may also be declared in the event of a heavy snow storm. This means parking would not be permitted on any city street until the street has been plowed. Should a city-wide emergency snow parking ban be issued, the city will send the notice to all media outlets, post the information prominently on the City of Lakewood website at http://www.onelakewood.com, send out notices on our Twitter account, @LakewoodOhio, post notices on the City’s Facebook page and place a message on Lakewood Radio 1660 AM.
Lakewood Codified Ordinance 351.26 and 351.27 contain the provisions of the emergency snow parking bans.
For the safety of all residents, please help the City of Lakewood clear the streets by removing vehicles during these snow emergencies.
