The Observation Deck

Walking down Detroit Ave. I stopped along with a small groups of mothers and children to watch a young woman spell something out on the basketball court's fence.

The girl was spelling out I LOVE YOU DA... in bright green tennis balls. So I went up and introduced myself, and learned her name was Samantha and she was spelling out, "I LOVE YOU DAVID" the name of her baby's father. She also showed me the recently done tattoo that said "David" on the back of her neck. I have to admit it was nicely done, if that is your cup of tea. I asked what it was about, and she mentioned just wanting to show David how much she loved him, and had a massive plan that would come together with a special
gift for him to enjoy.

She told me of her love for David, and her love of Kauffman Park, and in detail how this
surprise that would be sure to bring a smile to David's face would be pulled off.

You know, amor, in a park, a day before we all give thanks for what we have, is a beautiful thing.

At the top of every topic is a Facebook like and share button. Feel free to like and share any of the discussions
here on the Deck, or off the front page.

But think of how we all would have been cheated of one of your favorite quotes from one of my favorite authors,
had you been able to hit "like" and move on. The Deck is more like stone soup than instant
self-gratification narcissism of facebook. Walk by the virtual mosh pit, add a turnip to that
pot, some carrots to that pot, and some tomatoes to that other pot. Stir, and come back
to see what others, who care about Lakewood, have ideas, or observations to share have
thrown into the pot.

Thanks for sharing, it is how a community grows strong, defines itself, and attracts others.
