Outdated dangerous electrical system

Post by Ryan Salo »

I was talking with a few of the Duke workers today and they mentioned they were surprised how old and dangerous our system is. They said we are on the old delta system like Detroit which doesn't have a neutral line on the poles. This causes every line that falls to be a live and potential fatal situation. Cincinnati has a newer Y system where any line that falls is shut off on the pole so it isn't live on the ground. The workers also said we have way too many switches on each pole and in cleveland, there are first energy lines and cei lines on the same pole which they say is very dangerous.

I sure hope someone in authority uses this situation to investigate first energy practices. If there are safer ways to get folks electricity we sure should be making progress towards it.
