At 7:00 tonight, former Lakewood resident, professional entertainer, and Vietnam Veteran Mark "Shane" Phillips and me will be dropping by to play some music, down at Lakewood's Garfield Middle School emergency shelter; in order to lift the spirits of those most affected locally by the late unlamented and unloved Sandy. If you're out and about, swing by for our informal and utterly unofficial "Say goodbye to Sandy" event. Might be a good idea if you have a few extra cans of food for those who may need it, as well.

Gary,

I saw in the news that you were down at the shelter playing music. I thought that was an awful nice thing to do. :D

Thanks Grace,

It was a wonderful evening tonight at Garfield, just as it was last evening. Tonight, Shane provided his always exceptional combination of all-occasion, sing-a-long, and dance music with his one-man-band show. I accompanied him on the specialty numbers, plus I did a solo tribute to the victims of Sandy by playing "Silent Night" on the solo guitar, and "Amazing Grace" on the musical saw. Shane had the CERC volunteers up there line dancing as well.

Garfield was packed with people needing assistance. In addition to what was provided by CERC, the Red Cross, and the schools, a number of Lakewood businesses also contributed to the cause.

Lakewood Mayor Mike Summers was present this evening, (as he was, last night) Tonight he was with Fairview Park Mayor Eileen Ann Patton, as we are sharing Lakewood's Garfield Shelter with other West Side residents in the spirit of inter-community cooperation during this time of need.

Attendees this evening had little trouble saying goodbye to Sandy. Thanks to all involved for taking their time to help our friends and neighbors.
