Rockin out at the Grant School Halloween Dance

Happy Saturday all---

Feeling wistful this morning, this was the first year I didn't get to go to the Grant Fall Dance-- I had to stay at home with the big kids and my husband took my 2nd grader, who was dressed as a "baby monkey." I thought I would be fine with relaxing at home, not realizing how much a part of my Fall experience the Fall dance has become. My first one was 7 years ago! So I missed out on the Macarena, and YMCA, and the Electric Slide and the other ones I don't really know, and my favorite, the Limbo, and the crazy costumes and contests and homemade cookies and pizza and a chance to hang with my kid and all the Grant families and teachers, who are pretty much my extended family by now.

My daughter came home waving a blow-up electric guitar bigger than she is, having won the "craziest dancer" contest, which my husband told me, they won together doing their version of the jitterbug to a Big Band song. They were both delighted.

Of course they had no camera, so instead I took a trip on memory lane through my I-photos. Here's for the other moms like me. Maybe you'll see a blurry picture of one of your kids in here.

Yes, most of these guys are in middle school now. They are all still friends, even though they are now split between Harding and Garfield. They'll be back together in high school.

Grant's principal, Ms. Ramsey, brought baby number one to the party, and they didn't mind holding their end of the Limbo pole. This one always gets really nuts, with the kindergartners trying to slide through on their stomachs.

I'll be there to get that winning photo next year. It will probably be blurry.

Hey, that's Emma! Thanks for posting. The dance this year was a lot of fun! Rachel V. and PTA worked hard to give the kids a great time and book fair.
