Stolen yard signs anyone?

The other day my neighbor's Romney signs went missing, I naively assumed it blew away or they took it down. This morning less that 24 hours after mine went up it was stolen.

4 years ago I put an Obama sign in my yard and no one said a thing, most of my friends were voting the other way, yet they were tolerant enough to respect my freedom of choice.

I see Lakewood isn't so tolerant this time around. So who else has has a sign go missing? Right now I am really disgusted and angry. I truly believe in freedom of choice to vote for whom you feel would lead this nation in the proper direction but obviously some people don't. This is jus sad and reflects poorly on my wonderful neighborhood.

A minority of people take this chit way to serious... The end of the world will not take place on Nov. 7th regardless of who is elected.

I agree Stephen, it's crazy. It's just politics and people should be able to support whom ever they choose to without fear of retribution. I think any attacks by supporters of any side are disgusting. I just thought Lakewood was better than that.

On our street mine is the second sign to go missing, my neighbors was taken two days ago. It's just not right.

Danielle,

Your "signs" may be a "symptom" of a new Lakewood.

Do we really have "tolerant" elected/anointed/appointed public servants in City Hall?

If the answer is, "no," who do you think elected/anointed/appointed those folks at City Hall?

If the answer is, "yes," maybe our experiences, here in the 'Wood, are just freak anomalies?

Why is it ok to put up political signs but not ok to put up business signs? Like when I had my garage re-done, there is a law stating that we can't put up the company who did it. But political signs are ok? Makes no sense to me....

Political signs get stolen all the time. For years my flaming liberal candidates signs go
missing, stolen? Blown away? It does not matter, just put up more. But it reminds me of
my wife catching a ton of BS because she decided to put up an Obama sign and some
on the Deck though she was somehow doing something else and demanded it be taken
down.

But Danielle, you nailed it, the residents, aka not as important as big box stores, aka those
people, have been shut down on garage sales when I see that LCA can put signs all over the
city. Quaker Steak and Lube signs all over the city, construction signs, singles group all over
the city, but only the residents can be fined for having garage sale signs.

Why does city hall hate the residents?

Why does city hall want to break up and ruin many of our neighborhoods?

PS - Stephen, this election matters, you know it does. One guy is trying to clean up the
nightmare he took over. The other one wants to continue the party and spend our ways
to trickle down hell.

Jim, Reagan inherited a bigger mess and cleaned up in 4 years without blaming and pointing the finger. This country needs real leadership. If the voters choose not change the current direction of massive deficit spending, wars and the use of our military as a hitman to take out "threats" like Gaddafi then so be it.. The deficit has not been cut in half and we are still in Afghanistan and Iraq. It is time for leadership not empty promises.

The nightmare? Who refused to admit that there was a problem with Fannie and Freddie and blocked GSE reform? Who has increased in the national debt by $6 Trillion in under 4 years?

Jim, part of the reason I do not frequent the deck as often is because of the attitude of some that seem to think their opinions are somehow superior to others. It's off putting, kind of like the attitude of our esteemed VP in the debate the other night.

I for one don't care how long this has been happening. Honestly I am not a Lakewood native, I just chose this place to be my home. This is the only year I have had signs stolen. I had an Obama sign in my yard last election and all my republican friends were totally fine with that, my sign also never disappeared. I had nothing happen to it. I naively thought my neighbors sign had blown away. But that wasn't the case. I don't think an attitude of dismissiveness is what we need in Lakewood and quite frankly that is the attitude you are expressing, it's disappointing. Lakewood should be better than this, we should all be able to express our opinions without feeling like our opinions aren't wanted.

I'll just make one political statement and then I will leave it. I voted for Obama last time, I understand the nation was a mess but four years ago I had more money in my pocket, groceries and gas costed a lot less and I felt we had a more tolerant nation. That isn't the case today which is why this time I will be voting for Romney. I don't think we can survive another four years. We all vote based on how our lives are affected, I respect your opinion, I didn't give a thought to your signs in your sign.

All I am saying is Lakewood is better than to stoop to pettiness and I would think you of all people would be outraged by theft, it's too bad you have a blasé attitude about it. I am off to church now and quite frankly I probably won't be back to the deck. It's become a good ol' boys club and I have better ways to waste my time.

Danielle you read me wrong. I am outraged by theft, of any kind. It is a crime against
property, and against individuals. In this case stopping your first amendment. It is a
crime, and a serious one if "political parties" are involved. We have seen all sides do this
over the past ???? years.

I have also seen all the signs on our street switched, actually during the last presidential
drunks, kids, who knows. My neighbor often comes out the back door to find all of her
lawn furniture upside down.

My point is it might not be partisan. Might be.

No pedestal, no preaching.

I find it nearly as distasteful as trying to bully people into not putting up a sign, was my point.

Thanks for posting.

peace

It's not just yard signs either, but there are times that the culprit may not be whom (or in my case, what) one might expect.

Saw a deal last year on some of those stick-in-the-ground patio lights at one of our thrifty-type stores.

Bought a bunch of them, lined the front walkway until it looked like an airport runway, and then....

night after night, there were less and less of them.

12, 10, 7, 6....until I was down to one lonely light, which I found on its side one morning...

...having teeth marks.

I was, however, unable to determine either the species or political persuasions of the walk light thief.

Back to the banjo... :D

Well said, Brother Gary.
