Rainy Day In Lakewood... How about...

As so many people have been telling me to relax, maybe go for a drive, get out of Lakewood
and see the world, Deb and I have been doing just that. But I have been compiling them for
a series of articles on just how well placed Lakewood is for so many things.
Cleveland is a great place. No rush hour traffic to speak of. Most days, the time it takes to
go from Lakewood to University Circle, Blossom Music, Metals Park, even Akron, Mansfield,
the airport, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, even Cedar Point is measured in minutes, not
hours. Hell in Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, I have spent 20 minutes just trying to get on the
freeway.
Yesterday on rainy day, we ran out to the Natural History Museum. A real trip back in time.
Two weeks ago we went to the Art Museum. The oldest thing we saw there was a small
statue from 4,500 BC. Old, sure, but we wanted to see something older, and damn! 350
million years old kind of makes a person go, wow! Now that is old.

The Natural History Museum

Funny, I had not been in years, and it seemed very unchanged like a trip back in time.

I had forgotten, the old museum feel. Suffed animals, dioramas...

Balto! I had completely forgotton that we owned Balto the Siberian Huskey.
Balto is the dog that led Gunnar Kassen dog sled team delvering diphtheria serum to
Nome Alaska. Which is the foundation for the Iditarod Dog Sled Race. Think of it, Balto,
stuffed, right here for almost 100 years!

Then Lucy, named after the Beatles Song, "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds." She shook
the world in 1972 when she was discovered, pushing back humans on Earth back to 3.2 million years!
It was an amazing period in the world. 1972 I mean.

Another thing that always makes me smile is the Dinosaur Room. It makes me feel like a child.

Makes me think of Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn Picture Top 5000 Katharine Hepburn
in the 1938 classic film, "Bringing Up Baby."

Happy, the second dinosaur was discovered by a Lakewood High School Graduate!

Our moon rock!

I remember this huge spinning globe as a child, and it is still spinning.

Balto stuff for sale. If Balto has been stiffed and on display for nearly 100 years, how
many dollars has Balto raised over the century?
If you are looking for a real trip back in time on a rainy snowy day, try the Natural History Museum.
