Cash Mob at Local Girl Gallery TODAY! Sat Sept 22nd

by Jeanine Gergel
Come out to Local Girl Gallery on Saturday, September 22, 2012 from 2 to 6 p.m. and help save our community’s favorite gathering place and creative sanctuary.

Fans of the gallery were alarmed when owner Linda Goik announced earlier this month that the gallery would be closing by end of September. Many of us asked what could be done to save it. The answer: The gallery simply needs more business. If you love Local Girl, this is your chance to help keep it alive.

The rules for the cash mob are simple: 1) spend at least $20, 2) meet three people you’ve never met before, and 3) have fun.

This is the time to start your Christmas shopping, stock up on hostess gifts, and maybe even buy a little something for yourself! Refreshments will be served.

Local Girl Gallery is located at 16106 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood.

The Cash Mobs have dwindled down to next to nothing. I would like to see people commit to this AND then go, if your on the fence about going don't respond in a positive fashion this gives false hope to the recipient and also wastes their time in preparation. Lets do it! I'M GOING.

P.S Tell your friends and have them tell their friends and so on. That is the way this will work. If your busy on the 22nd pick another day and go, we love rule breakers!

Glenn

I imagine people like you, in retail business, like people that show up early or late for this. If even by days, weeks, months and years.

The point is, don't just talk, buy local. DO IT. Don't just talk about liking the arts, SUPPORT THEM by BUYING ART. And if you love the home town feel of Lakewood Hardware, and you smile every time Glen or one of the people working there gives you great advice, walks you to the back of the store and spends minutes finding the right washer to fix your crappy faucet that is leaking and causing havoc, BUY IT, and more.

Buy Local is not a slogan, it needs to be your first choice at how we do things.

Amen.
If going to the event on the 15th or the cash mob on the 22nd convinces Linda that Lakewood is serious about wanting her to stay open and that we're willing to buy local and support her, LET'S DO IT!

I want the best for Lakewood and having Linda be part of it is great, but I would rather see her be happy and fiancially solvent, if her decision to close is based upon her businesses history the cash mob might just be too little too late.

It is great you have worked on this along with your other wonderful duties at Northcoast
Health Ministries, but we really need to change Lakewood's mindset, or we will be cash
mobbing Local Girl again.

Buy Local is not a slogan for some groups to drag out now and then to issue door stickers
or self serving projects about. It is a very real mindset Lakewoodites need to live whenever
they can. I am not saying buy lower quality anything, but to actually shop and go in these
stores regularly and spend money.

If Linda needs proof of love to stay open, my god, the out pouring of emotion is like
nothing I have seen since the Beck threatened to move. But I fear, Linda likes the love
but needs the $$$$, and that will take all of us to live it not just say it.

Jeanine, Glen others that have helped spread the word on this and on so many other great
activities while maintaining needed businesses in Lakewood. Thank you from the bottom
of my heart. You are the people that make living here worthwhile.

Let's hope it all works.

Today's the day! Come out from 2 to 6 pm, Local Girl Gallery is at 16106 Detroit Avenue. If you can't come today, come soon, this is a great place for Christmas shopping, on a big budget or a small one. Check out the beautiful greeting cards handmade with love and care in every detail. This is also a great place to walk around and get ideas. Maybe your art will be on sale on Linda's walls and countertops next.

These pictures are from last Fall when local girl, Erin O'Brien read from her wonderful new book, "The Irish Hungarian Guide to the Domestic Arts", and sold every copy that she brought with her. This is the kind of event Local Girl gallery makes possible. Talking, laughing, shopping, meeting new people, buying cool things, big or small. Why shopping local is so great. Why hanging out local is so great.

Despite the Cash Mob and the over indulgence of love, respect and thanks by the people of
Lakewood, Linda Goik will still be closing Local Girl Gallery.

Much to think about and be learned from the entire experience.

Shop Local first, shop local often.

Stop the cash mobs, and show real support year round.
