The Sax Man is a human-drama documentary that tells the life story of Maurice Reedus Jr., Cleveland's iconic street saxophone player.
In preparing for this project, we have spent many months in pre-production developing an engaging story that we began to execute this past January. So far, we have had 8 full days of production, all of which have yielded amazing imagery and gripping story elements...totally worth freezing our butts off.
We have come a long way in establishing positive relationships with family, friends, and other key people connected to Maurice, and have gathered some wonderful interviews that are helping to create greater depth to his story.
Production for Sax Man will continue in 4-7 day stints throughout the rest of 2012, with principle photography wrapping in January 2013. From that point, the final project is set to be complete in 2013 when we plan to enter it into the Sundance Film Festival, where it would premiere if accepted. Either way, the release date will be early in the year of 2014.
Yea...this is one of those "long haul" kind of projects.
Because we are striving for a high level of production value on this film, we have gone to great lengths to use the best cameras, equipment, and crew available to us. These are a major expense that we have worked hard to cover so far, but will need your assistance to sustain through the coming year.
Also, a major part of this story takes place in Los Angeles, which will require the aforementioned expenses plus the added cost of a week's worth of travel. This is certainly not an easy or cheap project for us to pull off, but I am extremely encouraged and proud of the progress my team has made thus far.
