Up or Down?

During the recent School Board retreat the Superintendent said Lakewood schools had and will have a substantial increase in enrollment. If so how much, in which schools? If so why hesitate to ask the State to re-compute its enrollment projections?

Bill, I haven't looked at the data for a few years but I will say when we were told a few years ago that enrollment was down that wasn't the whole story. Student enrollment in the early elementary grades were up back then, that information was readily available.

Enrollment information was available at the State web site:

http://ilrc.ode.state.oh.us/Schools/Sch ... 8,Lakewood City,014142,Grant Elementary School,Cuyahoga County

For some reason the enrollment data is no longer available.

You should be able to call the board and request that information. They have the data on a spreadsheet divided by grade level.

Bill's posting of the URL cut off mid-way, after the word "Lakewood". URLs don't normally have spaces in them. This link should work.

The link works but when you click on enrollment you get:

Enrollment (Building)" for "Grant Elementary School"

I prefer the numbers received directly from the administration as they are broken down into grade level rather than just by school. Seeing which grades have a larger number of students tells the whole story. A couple of years ago we had one of the biggest kindergartens in a decade. Of course that was right about the time that full day kindergarten was instituted but if the district has those students enrolled in kindergarten it's likely they will remain for some time.
