Councilman Juris
Let's try something easy here.
What is it going to cost the tax payers of Lakewood for the Detroit Ave. renovations and
street clean-up in dollars and cents?
Bonus question are you willing to bet the cost ends up within 5% of the price you give us?
10%? 20% or more?
Just curious, as I am having a hard time nailing down an actual number.
Thank you in advance for your time and assistance in this.

No, from what I just read it states 20% of that is city funds. 3 Million is the overall. Or did I read that wrong?
Mr. Juris, is anything changing with the street lamp posts?

Many of the lights are set further back, which was very much needed. I can't wait until they are timed properly. Looks like it'll cost the city around $600k for the entire project. Also, any improvement to air quality is appreciated. I guess that remains to be seen.
Now, I'd like to see Lake Ave reduced to one lane in each direction.

Last week I took the high road, that Gary Rice spoke of. I asked what I hoped was a simple question. I had read the article I had posted earlier from City Hall, as did you and others. However we were all confused as to the actual amount the residents of Lakewood were paying to clean up "Detroit Avenue." I had hoped because of the sheer size of the project you might have had access to the number you voted on when the project was approved and voted on by you.
I now realize, that was foolish on my part, as you were busy with other things.

It was mentioned to me last night that I might have been a bit unfair to you asking for the
total cost of the Detroit Ave. reconstruction as you might not have been involved or that I
might have overestimated things not under your control.
He suggested that I talk to the head of the Public Works Committee, and that person should
have all my answer on how much everything cost, projections, contracts etc.
So after sending this I am calling City Hall and try it that way.
Sorry to have asked something you did not have access too.

I did ask Shawn Juris the "head of the Public Works Committee" politely for his cost figures
for the Detroit Ave project(s).

Why isn't Councilman Juris more forthcoming?
I asked the Head of the Public Works Committee, "What is it going to cost the tax
payers of Lakewood for the Detroit Ave. renovations and street clean-up in dollars and cents?"
Instead of answering the question, he plays games, and hides the actual cost of the
Detroit clean-up and renovation. Instead the Director of Public Works give us the price
for only the poles, and signal lights.

I believe that is the cost of the entire project, not Lakewood's portion, as it is being greatly funded by ODOT.

As far as I understand it the Detroit project is costing $3 million however the City of Lakewood is only responsible for 20% of that, as the state is covering the rest. That comes out to $600,000. This is a number I have heard several tim and is also what I believe Shawn said.
As far as Jim's $13 million, I have not seen where he saw that, as it was not in the article he posted, and I would like to see that so I can better understand Jim's post. However my thought is that the $13 mil probably is the cost for all of the the Clifton, Detroit, Madison and Franklin/Hilliard projects together, and we would only be covering that at 20% so it comes out to a total of the city investing $2.6 million over something like 4 years, or however long the projects will take.

Then brake out the pie charts though slightly conufsing and you end up with somewhere
between $6.46 million and $9.8 million on a project that costs $13 million.
While Mayor Summers post is informative, why can't one public official say, "It will cost
XXXX and we pay XXX" is beyond me.
The entire point of my asking this in the first place was, how can we possibly afford all of
these extras if we are still operating on a $4 million deficit by year's end.
(Mayor Summers
has downgraded that $4 million dollar figure he gave in January to $3 million based on
cuts and savings made to date.) It was a serious question, about serious issues. We have
had two very hard working groups be told there is no money for their projects as the city
is broke, and they had committed $7,000 to a study so it was no longer available. The city is broke.
So you hear one side, then the other, and then see all of this spending. I am not talking
about if we need way finding, brown signs, anything. I am merely trying to understand
how we are spending the money, and where it is coming from. No trick.
It really shouldn't be this tough.
