Now Is Our Chance!

In 2004 a few of us were looking for a way and places to move in public art. We had looked
at the talk of Art District and realized there was very little public art in Lakewood. We had
three Davis sculptures in front of the Beck, the Schreckengost at the LHS, and the carved
tree in front of the Fire Station which rotted apart and was replaced by the 9-11 Monument.
One of the major thought processes that came out of what was to become "Lakewood Is
Art" was that there was a great deal of public art available from all over the world at a low
price. Freemont, Washington had acquired a statue of Lenin. Yes, Lenin, not Lennon. From
the Soviet Union. The piece cost hundreds of thousands to cast, A person in Freemont got
it for $10,000. A heck of a price for great art.

Some of us, thought it might be fun to go in another direction...

Lakewood a place for lovers.
And guess what I think we can buy for pennies on the dollar from Caiberien, Cuba!

With the addition of art in front of the library, maybe we are ready, now is the time to act.
Come on Lakewood, take a chance on art.
