Hi Matt,
Thanks for the info. I'm curious as to why the meetings are described as "public" when they immediately recess into an Executive Session. Would there be any reason for a member of the public to show up here? Does the Board "report out" from their Executive sessions?
I see that each of these meetings have to do with considering the employment of a public employee which made me wonder if the Board is getting down to business interviewing candidates for our new Treasurer.
I'm hoping you guys get some great candidates. There were some public forums regarding the choice of a new superintendent before Dr. Madak was chosen, are there any plans afoot for public forums regarding the new treasurer?
Thanks.

Betsy,
We will, in fact, have a new Treasurer named in the near future.
The application deadline for applying to become our new Treasurer is November 21, 2011 – i.e., tomorrow.
The Board has already set forth a timeline for selecting a new Treasurer by December 31, 2011, with the appropriate input of the two new school board members. Tom has already been brought into the process. Either Emma or Kristine will be brought into the process as soon as their election results are finalized.
The Board will not be seeking public input in the search for replacing Treasurer Rick Berdine in the same manner as it did in replacing Superintendent Dave Estrop with Joe Madak.
The search to replace Rick will be done by the Board in the same fashion as the Board replaced Joe with Superintendent Jeff Patterson, but with the added consultation of and coordination with OSBA, as well as the appropriate input from new board members.
If I may be so bold, the process for selecting Jeff Patterson was perfect. Superintendent Patterson has put together an excellent administrative team, and Superintendent Patterson is known throughout the State of Ohio as one of the premier educational leaders. But, I digress.
All school board meetings must be noticed and there is always action taken in open session as reflected in the minutes. We will be recessing from open session and entering into executive session and then recessing back into open session during all four meetings.
As a general rule, action can be taken at any school board meeting. I encourage anyone who wants to attend any public meeting to attend the same.
Matt

Below is my initial post from Monday, October 24, 2011, at 9:04 a.m., entitled, "A Lakewood City School District Treasurer Search Update."
Matthew John Markling wrote:I have had many inquiries about the status of the Lakewood City School District Board of Education’s search for our next Treasurer. A brief summary is below.

The Board anticipates having a new Treasurer selected and under contract before
December 31, 2011.
The Board’s plan is to have the next Treasurer start, on or before
August 1, 2012, working collaboratively with Rick Berdine toward a formal transition on
December 31, 2012, which is Mr. Berdine’s last date of employment with the Lakewood City Schools.
